HILLBILLYS IN A HAUNTED HOUSE - Ferlin, Merle, Jeepers, Marcella, Jim, Sonny & Boots (1967)

Looks pretty scary right about here, doesn't it??

This is what they did to Joi Lansing for singing the "Gowns" song!

So it's just about that there time of the year out there, and it's also time to clean out this ole haunted house, "Hillbillys In A Haunted House," that is, and it's a perfect movie to show at yer local annual Country Pagan Carnival and Beer Fest, so circle up the wagons, light a big hot chemical fire, put the big HD TV right smack in the middle and turn it on! Grab yerself a cold one & settle in, cause it's gonna be a long night! To get you all prepared for the big event, here's some tunes just to whet yer appetite. Don't forget the hazmat suits! It's a Jamboree after all, and that's all! Now here we go, to get it all started: Here's... FerlinJeepersBootsMerleMarcella
Before the big Jamboree, which was at the end of the movie, there was a whole bunch more songs, if you can believe that!! Like Jim Kents on the TV!

Jim Kents And another heartbreaker from the phenomenal Sony James! Sony James Lost In A Trance by Mr. Ferlin Husky Ferlin Husky And last & very most especially least, probably the worst piece of garbage ever recorded in any medium, & we only add it here as a historical note, God knows we love Joi Lansing, but this song about gowns will make you gag before you join the next herd of lemmings headed toward the nearest cliff without ever glancing back! I'm, sorry, they made me do it!!

IL BOIA SCARLATTO (The Bloody Pit Of Horror) - Gino Peguri - "Main Title" (1965)

It appears that even though most of the European horror films never reached the box office status of their American counterparts, a lot of the time, they had much cooler soundtracks, just as jazz in general was appreciated more in Europe, it was also used more often in their movies. This Italian movie, "The Bloody Pit Of Horror" is a good example. The music by Gino Peguri is quite pure. This song alone should make you want to see this movie, it's that cool, and not quite like anything else you've ever heard. If that's not enough, this film is also shot in "Psychovision"!!!! What else do you want?

IL MOSTRO DI VENEZIA (The Embalmer) - Jti Janne - "The Medium" (1965)

Well, if you weren't waiting for this one, it could only be because you didn't know about it. Either way, now you do, so the wait's over! So now we're in a weird little club, acolytes set the scene, coffin opens, "it's a guitar!" And here he is, .....Jti Janne!

This dude might look a little like Elvis, but that's where the musical resemblance ends. "Pretty different?", I guess!! Meanwhile, The Embalmer's going around doing you know what to all the local girls! Cool and crazy, crazy and cool!! Embalmer Elvis

STING OF DEATH - Neil Sedaka - "Boat Party" (1965)

Seems like the party just never stops out there in the everglades until some stinging monster or as in this case, stinking monster, gets involved and wrecks all the fun. Check out the picture of the guy falling off the boat, I hate to be redundant, but that's the same guy that gets pushed in the water in "Death Curse Of Tartu."

Never could figure out why a bunch of collegiate geniuses would be so mean to the poor deformed guy either.

These people look like they are all in their 30's & they act like twelve year olds who had got into their parent's liquor cabinet. Maybe it was like a built-in, anti-booze public service announcement or something. A movie that even Neil Sedaka couldn't save! Here's the song from the boat being docked to the pier party, which really isn't that bad. There's some interesting dialogue with a little Beatles put down. Maybe the title is "Don't Be Stingy Baby"

DEATH CURSE OF TARTU - Al Jacobs - "Tartu Dance" (1966)

Meanwhile, back in the swamp, we still got kids dancing & guys getting tossed in the water, before they get killed. Try and find some more information on the music from this scene! Good luck! It's probably another Neil Sedaka variation, but really, it sounds a lot like Joe "King" Carrasco & The Crowns, The King of Tex-Mex Rock & Roll, if ya'll need some kind of reference point. This is a pretty good upbeat song, a bit ahead of it's time, that is definitely worthy of a title, maybe "Joe Joe"? Once again, clear up the mystery & get yourself a copy!

THE WASP WOMAN - Fred Katz - "Main Title" (1960)

Fred Katz! What A Story! Almost seems impossible, but Fred Katz composed the music for "A Bucket of Blood" in 1959, "The Little Shop of Horrors" in 1960, "The Wasp Woman" in 1960, and "Creature From The Haunted Sea" in 1961. It was like the man hit a grand slam home run, then zip, nada, zero, until he resurfaces with "Boogie Nights" in 1997! Now that's one hip Kat!! Fred, wherever you are, you're our hero, man!! A Dwrayger Dungeon Hall Of Famer if there ever was one!! Thanx!!! Another sidenote tidbit, why do they show a beekeeper at the begining of a film about wasps, that's what we really want to know!
As an extra added bonus, "The Wasp Woman" also has DD Faves Barboura Morris, Michael Mark, Bruno VeSoto & Frank Wolff, and that amounts to an all-star cast as far as we're concerned!!!

Go and get yourself a copy for that Halloween party you've been thinking about!

THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS - Fred Katz - "Main Title" (1960)

There's nothing we could possibly say about "Little Shop Of Horrors" that would be new or unique, but it does have to be included on this list anyway. More brilliant music from Fred Katz & Ron Stein, & amazing performances by Jonathan Haze, Dick Miller & Jack Nicholson!
Now if you try to trace the history of "People Eaters" through time, you will only have to go back a couple of years, & not have to use a whole lot of imagination to remember in 1958 there was a quite famous purple "People Eater," that was created by the masterful Sheb Wooley, who also recorded by the name of Ben Colder, singing parody covers of other people's hit songs. Do you remember "Hello Walls # 2" where the guy comes in home drunk & goes into the neighbor's house & can't recognize anything? Same guy wrote & sang "Purple People Eater." Bang, two years later, more "People Eater" history is made with "The Passionate People Eater," AKA, "The Little Shop Of Horrors." Coincidence? I doubt it!
