BEANY AND CECIL / "Davey Cricket" - 1962

Well, here's our last post in the difficult year known as 2021. So, my plan is to go back to the happy past with a fun Beany & Cecil cartoon!

The gang's out exploring the old south in their converted Leakin' Lena wagon pulled by Cecil and his little pony pal...

Cap'n reads an article in the newspaper which says that $100,000 is being offered to anyone that brings Davey Cricket to Hollywood to star in a slapstick western!!

On a map, he then points to the place they're going to in Tennessee, Davey Cricket's Thicket.

And of course DJ reads the same article. He's a talent agent for his movie company, Citrus Pictures. You can read the rest of the joke there on his phone booth.

DJ speeds away to Tennessee in his company airplane, that's all the budget would allow for.

At Davey's place, the little cricket is beating the crap out of all the critters there that want to take him on. Davey wins every scuffle.

DJ jumps out of his plane and falls into Davey's fireplace, trying to get to the little guy ahead of any other agents that may pop in.

DJ wants Davey to sign his CONtract and tells him about all the things he can afford as a star in Hollywood.

Like owning lots of homes and land, cars and a butler to top it off.

But, Davey's not having any of it...

Davey has DJ act out a part with him, then he attacks!!

DJ tries to get away but Davey's hot on his trail, riding a bear skin.

Here's how it ends for DJ, stuck in a wooden wheel on his way to oblivion!

Then Beany and the gang show up and ask Davey to sigh their contract to star in a movie. Davey says no way to the boys...

But Cecil has a little surprise to show him!

It's Leading Lady! Davey can't resist and signs the contract, then they all head back to Hollywood for another adventure... So, like, let's all hold our breath and dive into 2022, Eegah!! will be here tomorrow with our first post of the new year!

THE X FILES - "Squeeze" (1993)

Tonight's Wholesome, Wholehearted, and Whimsical Wednesday presentation is what comes after W for a change, "The X Files."

This was the third episode of "The X Files," and was titled "Squeeze." The truth might be out there, but these days, it sure doesn't feel like we're getting any closer to finding it!

"Squeeze" is very similar in scope to films like "The Night Strangler" and "The Night Stalker."

There is a little deviation in the fact that this killer comes out every thirty years instead of every twenty years, and instead of blood, he's in need of livers, and all of the victims are found with theirs forcefully removed!

Just in case you don't already know, this is gorgeous Gillian Anderson as Agent Dana Scully.

Her partner of course, is David Duchovny as Fox Mulder. Clever like a fox, or crazy like a fox? This Fox is kind of a combination of both! By my count, David has either played or done the voice for himself, or Agent Mulder, in at least six roles not related to "The X Files."

Trapped like the rat that he is, Agent Scully finally gets the killer in her sights!

Now it's just the matter of what they are going to do with him.

The killer is named Eugene Victor Tooms and is played by Doug Hutchison. About seven months later, Tooms will reappear in episode 21 after he gets paroled from prison.
Among many other odd roles, Doug was Golum in "Batman And Robin."

Doug was also the front man in a band called "The Yuh-uh-uh-uhs," who did this mondo-bizarro song called "Vampire Chickens."
Now it just doesn't get much better than that, and yet somehow, incredulously, that video has less that 700 views!

Believe it or not, I actually missed "The X Files" when it was on TV because I was busy trading cassette tapes at the time, and it's pretty cool to have a great show like this to still be able to watch, and catch up on, because it's just as good as it was back then!

With Mulder and Scully's assistance, the Police finally concur that there is definitely something weird about Tooms, and it's more than just being a killer, but stupidly, they still let him go!

This guy looks ripe, and is all set to be the next dish on the menu!

In the year 2022, get ready to see Gillian in the role of Eleanor Roosevelt in a TV series called "The First Lady." I think she is probably going to nail it!

This is the place where Tooms was hiding out thirty years earlier!

And it's the same place they will find him in the  current day!

I know from first hand experience that it's really helpful to have flashlights when you're shooting a scene in a super low light situation!

Tooms haunts ventilation systems in buildings, and that is how he was able to get in and out of so many places without being detected!

We've still got a couple more days until this crappy year is over! I think I'll end it on a positive note, and binge out on "The X Files." Thanx as always to my Editor-In-Chief in Germany for handing this cub reporter this assignment! Hopefully we'll see you again next year!

THE THREE STOOGES In "Hold That Lion" - 1947

Here's a good way to end this messed up year, with who else, Those Three Stooges! As an added feature, this one goes out to Mr. KD, of which I'm sure he'll elaborate on later in the comments section, betcha!

Boy oh boy, looks like the boys really know how to hook up with the best lawyers!

Emil Sitka is their attorney, he lets the Stooges know they need to serve subpoenas to another lawyer, a Mr. Icabod Slipp...

Slipp has slipped into a closet when the boys come to his office. He hears them say that they don't know what the guy looks like, and so he pretends to be someone looking for Slipp, there to get their money back from that crook, and accuses them of being Slipp!

And there to rough him up! One by one he dismantles the Stooges and slips out the door after tearing up their subpoenas...

After the boys recover, they realize that Slipp was the guy that beat them up.

They also find a note that shows he's leaving on a train, trying to escape with their inheritance! So...

The boys board the train, thinking Slipp may be wearing a disguise. Let's take a look!

Here's Jerry in a cameo as a sleeping Curly. Was this the only time the three brothers appeared together on the screen?

OOPS!.. Not Slipp!

The conductor is after the boys because they don't have tickets, so, they hide in box in the transport car. When will they ever learn to read?!

And of course, they let the lion out.

You can imagine how that goes over!

So, the boys find Slipp, who's ready to get off the train with all their money.

After giving the boys the slip yet again, he hides in the cargo room.

It looks like it's curtains for the Stooges, until...

Moe tosses away the hammer he's holding, and it knocks the Hell out of Slipp!

The boys recover their inheritance, oh boy!!

And they celebrate in a classic Stooge manner, breaking eggs on Shemp's noggin!
