THE FLY / SLM Production Group, Brooksfilms - 1986

Here's a perfect Halloween Countdown flick, it's about Seth Brundle, a brilliant, eccentric scientist who attempts to woo investigative journalist Veronica Quaife by offering her a scoop on his latest research in the field of matter transportation! Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature, but when he attempts to teleport himself, a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man. Be afraid. Be very afraid!! It's a real Cronenberg nightmare!..

This thing stars Jeff ( INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS) Goldblum and Seth Brundle, Geena (THELMA & LOUISE) Davis as Veronica Quaife and John (THE FLY II) Getz as Veronica's friend.

Seth has already sent a live animal through the matter transporter, so, he decides to go through himself. Everything seems fine and is a success as far as he knows...

Veronica comes over to talk to Seth after he's told her about the seemingly successful transportation, when, he feels like he suddenly has super human strength. He thinks it's only because of going through the process of the rearrangement of his atoms.

Aware of his new powers, Seth goes to a bar for a few drinks and decides to give the big bruisers a lesson in arm wrestling! You can see see for yourself how the match goes.

Things are starting to go awry and Seth tries to isolate the problem. The computer shows that a house fly was in the transporting chamber when he went through!.. Holy effing shit!!

Veronica shows up to find Seth eating lunch, using fly vomit to break down his food! Yuck!!

At this point, Veronica is pregnant with Seth's baby! She has a terrifying nightmare where she gives birth to a big old maggot!! Yow!!

Getting worse, Seth tries to use the computer to reverse the process, but, because his speech has changed dramatically, the freakin' computer won't allow him to access it through his voice control...

Stathis, Veronica's friend, shows up to help her out but becomes a victim. First, Seth bites his hand and releases caustic fluids that basically melts it!

Then, Seth releases more fluid that dissolves the flesh on Stathis's ankle!! Ouch!!

Seth goes after Veronica, he freakily walks on the ceiling, scaring the Hell out of her!

Then, Seth goes through another change, his human flesh falls away, revealing a gruesome Brundle Fly! Veronica is coming unglued and still has love for him.

Stathis, in ungodly pain, grabs a rifle and is somehow able to get into position to shoot the wiring leading to Veronica's chamber after Seth tossed her inside and locked the door!

Okay, so you think things couldn't get any worse?!!.. Wrong! Veronica barely escapes her pod before the transfer takes place, but, the computer fuses Seth with his metal chamber and he's a big freakin' mess!!

Veronica has no choice, she must put Seth out of his misery and blows his head off! So damn sad, what a crazy flick!! David Cronenberg!!

Eegah!! will have more Halloween Countdown Cargo for us on Wednesday, better not miss it...

A creepy movie with a creepy plot. Well done, and hard to watch, at times.

As disgusting as it gets at times, this film beats out the sappy 1958 THE FLY by miles and miles and miles! Probably the only Cronenberg film I bothered to keep on DVD and purchase on Blu-ray as well. Slimy and gross, but intense and painful with fantastic makeup effects, and superb acting by the leads.
