ROUTE 66 - "Lizard's Leg And Owlet's Wing" (1962)

Season 3, Episode 6 of the TV series "Route 66" was titled "Lizard's Leg and Owlet's Wing" and it aired October 26, 1962!
Welcome to Saturday The 13th in The Dungeon, and more Halloween Countdown 2018!

If I recall right, "Route 66" was on TV on Friday night at 7:00 PM. Consequently, I was usually out on the prowl somewhere in that time zone, and never got to see much of it!

Not aired as a Halloween special that I know of, but the title pretty much gives it away!

When this episode starts, it seems like you're watching the end of some creepy classic Universal flick that was maybe on right before "Route 66," but........

.......It's a fake-out! It's just Lon Chaney Jr. saying good night to his grandson!
And you thought you were watching "Route 66!"

What a very cool kid's room clock!

This is a convoluted story about three of the giants of horror wanting to make a modern day horror statement that, what was once scary, is still scary! Peter Lorre, Lon Chaney Jr. and Boris Karloff were still the heavies of horror in 1962!

"Route 66" was a show about two guys, George Marharis and Martin Milner, as Buz and Tod, two guys who travel historic Route 66, you know that one that "winds from Chicago to L.A." getting into mischief as they go! It's kind of like "The Fugitive" except there's two of them, and they're not running from the law!

Born in Madera California, Jeannine Riley as Molly, the sad secretary would go on to be in Ted V. Mikel's  "Strike Me Deadly" and then as one of the main cast members of "Petticoat Junction," Billy Jo Bradley!

Martita (Bunny Lake Is Missing) Hunt is great as Mrs. Baxter!

Lon tries to scare Mrs. Baxter to prove that his kind of monster is still scary!

The boys get a part-time gig at a motel, and while Buz is assigned to a group of executive secretaries that includes Molly, Tod has to figure out what's going on with the trio of terror who are all checked in under false names!

 Time for a commercial break!
These days, the shamers would lose their freakin' shit to see somebody like Super Bowl Champion,  4 time NFL Champion, and 1961 Most Valuable Player, The Golden Boy, Paul Hornung doing an ad for Marlboro Cigarettes! Times have changed, no doubt!!! Paul should be having a birthday here in a couple of months on December 23! Happy 83 Paul!!

This is just a great shot of some of the executive secretaries!

To test their theory that old classic monsters are still scary, Lon dresses up as The Wolfman, and crashes the secretaries' party!

One by one, all the women in the room faint including Dungeon fave Betsy Jones-Moreland who was in "Creature From The Haunted Sea," "Last Woman On Earth," "The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent," and "The Outer Limits" episode titled "The Mutant!"

Peter is very pleased with the results!

Although quite silly, this really was a fun show to watch! Part of the silliness is due to the fact that the show was created and written by Sterling Silliphant (Sounds like the name of a cartoon elephant) whose screenplays range from "Village Of The Damned" to "The Swarm!"

The Wolfman tries the direct treatment on Molly going into her room and terrorizing her, but she only feels sorry for him. He leaves, and every woman that sees him in the hall faints!

In the end, they even dress Boris up as Frankenstein! As lame as it is, I've still got to say, what a cast, and what a show. If you have Amazon Prime, all four seasons  of "Route 66" play for free, including this one, and I can't think of a sillier way to spend 58 minutes of your Halloween fun time!

THE BLOODY APE / Human Limbs Torn From Sockets! - 1997

Today's simian slaughter's about a weirdo carnival barker who foolishly releases his 400 pound gorilla that literally goes bananas on a rampage of raw rage and boffo butchery, leaving the low rent population of Long Island either sexually violated, slaughtered or both! It's a gore-soaked grind house movie that was banned from numerous festivals around the world, ignored by critics and loathed by the politically correct.

This thing's filled with no-name actors, seems like a perfect Halloween Countdown submission to Tabonga! So, without further ado, let's get this road on the show!.. Hey, great title card, dude loves the boobs!!

Here's a look at some of the fun to be had at a Long Island carnival. This ride would make me puke if I had to pilot it for more than a few seconds. The Tilt-A-Whirl and Roundup will literally give me a brain aneurysm!

And, here's the carnival barker filling the audience in about his 400 pound ape and what a wonderful pet he is for all the kids! A bit of false advertising to be sure...

The barker brings his 'girlfriend' home for dinner and blows it but good! So, she walks out on him, I guess, because he won't take his hat off in the house? Or, maybe because he's a putz!

Believe it or not, this is the local police detective who gets the job of tracking down the damn dirty ape! And, I thought our low budget Dungeon flick, THE CREEP, had some funny looking characters!

Check out those cool threads the locals are wearing, looks like a bunch of hippies. The bottom photo shows the burning pain after the guy gets his schlong ripped of by the ape while peeing, after the hulk escapes from the carnival!

This cutie is taking a shower for our enjoyment, when...

The big Bloody Ape joins her in the shower! He grabs her boobs a lot and then strangles her!

The killing doesn't end there, he actually slits this gal's throat!

It's not that much better for her roommate, she gets boned by the ape before he strangles her!

Here's our 'heroes' on the job, slacking off, dude's reading a good old Cracked Magazine!

This parking cop get his head ripped off when he accosts the Bloody Ape driving a car he stole from a gas station!

The barker has been hiding the ape in his basement. The thing remembers all the times the barker fucked with him and withheld it's favorite food, bananas!!

Luckily, the detective gets dragged down into the basement, never to be seen again! ...YAY!!

Tune in tomorrow when Eegah!! heads up the festivities as we head down old Halloween Countdown trail... Yee-haw, y'all.

THE WITCH'S CAT - "The Halloween Parade" (1948)

Tonight's Happy Halloween extravaganza is a 1948 Terrytoons cartoon called "The Witch's Cat" that features Mighty Mouse keeping the world safe for some partying mice!

In 2014, I presented you with "Fankenstein's Cat," another Mighty Mouse cartoon from 1942! Mighty Mouse kept busy his whole career protecting mice and fighting different scary cats!

The mice are having a Halloween parade. I couldn't find any credits for who performs this Happy Halloween song from 70 years ago, but it should be a staple for every family on October 31st!

Across the night sky, an eerie apparition appears!

It's the mean olde witch and her fairly ignorant cat!

The witch and cat are on a mission to get the cat some mice to eat, presumably because the cat is too dumb to do it all on his own!

So they swoop down on the mouse house party!

No matter what the cat tries, he's basically a failure!

The mice put a mask on the cat's tail, and it scares the crap out of him!

Then the mice decide to try a different approach! Woo woo!!

Finally with the witch's help, the cat starts gathering up mice, but as soon as he drops them in the top, they escape through the holes cut in the jack-o-lantern's face!

A call goes out for help!!

"Here I come to save the day!"

At first, the witch gasses Mighty Mouse, and gets the upper hand!

But he snaps out of it, and now there is Hell to pay!!

Mighty Mouse kicks witch and cat butt all over the place in a mighty tussle!

YAY! Now the party can go on! Let's hear that song again!
"Come along, come along..."
