Okay so, on an island somewhere in the Caribbean, a guy named Charlie Davis has declared himself the head honcho, and if you don't obey his commands, well, you'll face the wrath of his fist and whip!!
Love these painted title cards the best!.. This one stars good old Bruce Bennett as 'Mister Charlie' and boss of the island. Bruce was born in Tacoma, Washington, and died in 2007 at the ripe old age of 100 in Santa Monica! Just prior to this feature, he played Dr. Karl Sorenson in THE COSMIC MAN and Dr. Eric Lorimer in THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE. In this one he plays a drunk maniac. This movie is a fun watch, all the people are authentic looking and the over acting from Bruce is the whipped cream with a cherry on top!
And, if you don't believe me about the whip, Mr. Charlie will be happy to oblige...
Our hero is Charlie's helper, David, played by Robert Bray. He began his career after the war and had an amazing 8 acting credits in 1946, 10 more in 1947 and 11 in 1948!!.. Anyway, Charlie's telling him how has has to act around the natives, treat 'em tough!
Then, Glory La Verne, an entertainer, shows up for vacation and Charlie takes her money and prevents her from leaving, Her wants her for his own, the drunken peeg! Glory's played by Tania Velia, billed as the Yugoslavian Bombshell. And prior to this, she played a Venusian Girl in QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE and a Moon Girl in MISSILE TO THE MOON! You go girl.
Glory makes the best of it and helps out around the hut. She becomes fast friends with the village people (ha ha). In one case, she has a close encounter of the curious kind with a 15 year old boy that has an extreme hatred for Mr. Charlie because he whips the people, literally!
Charlie knows that David knocked him out and helped Glory escape with her native friends. So, he pulls out his whip (whips are evil but very effective weapons).
But, David fights through the snaps and cracks and knocks Charlie on his ass time and again with his fists. David splits and goes to a secret location where he has been coordinating with the locals to fight back against the brute.
Charlie goes off the rails and into tirade mode. The villagers are part of a plan to frustrate the wild man, they burn his shit down and even shoot at his feet when he tries to leave his place!
Eventually, Charlie finds David and Glory together and he beats up David. Just when Charlie is ready to use his whip on David, the 15 year old boy (he's been practicing) takes the whip and snaps a goodern on Charlie's back!
That gets Charlie's attention!!..
Charlie just wants to get his hands on the boy and tear him from limb to limb, but as fate would have it, the kid beats him into submission with his own weapon! Oh yeah, it all takes place during a lightning storm, every time the kid makes a strike, a lightning bolt appears!
When it's time for Charlie to leave the island, his little weasel buddy causes a pile of trouble with his pals. They are there to help take back the island, but the locals are two steps ahead of them and already have a battle plan.
Charlie and David have an epic battle in the water but that Mako shark there gets the last laugh, and Charlie is a goner! Hey, a perfect ending, this movie is so cool and satisfying at the end, check it out if you can... Tune in tomorrow as Eegah!! takes hold of the old 'post' button, here, at The Dungeon!..

THE KILLING - "Suspense! Terror! Violence!" (1956)
It's a "Well, you can't know everything" Wednesday down in The Dungeon, and our feature tonight is an early offering from one of the biggest names in film making, Stanley Kubrick, and if for some reason you don't know who Stanley Kubrick is, here's a couple of titles to refresh your memory. Stanley Kubrick was responsible for a few minor inconsequential films like "2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," and "The Shining." If you're not familiar with any if those titles, then it's probably time to go back and finish taking your nap.
"The Killing" is an amazing piece of work, and is a story that revolves around a group of guys who got the stupid idea to try and rob a racetrack.
Not a whole lot has changed in horse racing over the years, they still use very similar starting gates, but instead of moving them around with draft horses, these days they use a John Deere tractor.
Horse racing is having a tough time these days because of all the deaths at the Santa Anita Race Track the last couple of years. This film doesn't help things much as the disgusting distraction the guys have come up with is to shoot the favored horse in a certain race.
The race course used in the movie was located in San Mateo, Calif. and was called "Bay Meadows." It closed down it 2006.
This is a picture of a wallet I inherited a few years ago.
"The Killing" has a killer cast that includes Elisha (Black Zoo, House On Haunted Hill) Cook, and Marie (Cat Women Of The Moon) Windsor.
Vince (Dr. Ben Casey) Edwards is the lover.
This is the core group headed by Johnny Clay as portrayed by Sterling (Dr. Strangelove, Johnny Guitar, The Godfather) Hayden. Besides this gang of five, they're going to hire two other guys to do some of the dirty work!
The whole original reason I wanted to watch this film was because Timothy Carey was in it as Nikki Arcane, a gun for hire, because Timothy very rarely fails to entertain. "The Killing" was no exception! Nikki is seen here with the shooting targets on his farm!
Nikki signs on to shoot the horse for a couple thousand dollars. You have to love the fact that this horrible killer is holding that cute little puppy the whole time the deal is being discussed. I guess nobody told the pup not to mug the camera!
Johnny Clay has got a very cool ride!
Russian born Kola Kwariani was a real professional wrassler by trade. He also loved to play chess at a chess club in New York called The Flea House that was also featured in this movie. As tough guy Maurice Oboukhoff, he's hired by Johnny Clay to start a fight at just the right moment to serve as a distraction. A very sad story is that in 1980 at the age of 77, Kola was leaving The Flea House and was severely beaten by a group of thugs, and ended up dying from the injuries he sustained!
Nikki Arcane holds up his end of the deal, but ends up getting killed in the process! It wasn't quite as simple a job as Johnny Clay made it sound like.
The horse is down, and the fight distraction is carried out, which allows Johnny to get in and steal all the money! It looks like this crazy plan just might work.
Unfortunately Elisha Cook's character told Marie Windsor's character, who told Vince Edwards' character, and now the robbers are set to get robbed themselves!
I'm just showing you this still so you can see what kind of dives Lenny Bruce had to play in his career!
Absolutely everything goes to Hell!
Johnny Clay and his girlfriend Fay, as played by Coleen (The Phantom Planet, The Leech Woman) Gray try to board a plane to get out of the country with a large suitcase full of money. Coleen gets co-star billing on the poster even though she's only in the movie a very short amount of time. The bag is too big for carry on luggage, and Johnny gets pretty angry that he has to be separated from his new fortune!
The suitcase goes off on a journey by itself, ends up falling off the cart and scattering money all over the runway!
I think the look on Johnny Clay's face says it all!
"The Killing" is a seriously good movie I suggest everybody see at least once, but just don't wait as long as I did. For those of you who have a Prime account, it streams for free, and you can't beat a deal like that!

DRACULA / A Vampire In Love - 1979
In this vampire love story, the only survivor of a ship wreck, Count Dracula, is discovered on the beach by young Mina Van Helsing, who is visiting her friend Lucy Seward. Lucy, her fiancé Jonathan Harker, and her father Dr. Jack Seward (who runs the local asylum) try to make the Count feel welcomed in England. The Count quickly takes the life of Mina, and then proceeds to romance Lucy, with the intention of making her his Queen. Soon after the death of Mina, the Sewards call her father Dr. Abraham Van Helsing to come to their home. As Lucy falls deeper under the spell of the Count, Dr. Van Helsing almost immediately comes to understand that his daughter fell prey to a vampire and discovers the culprit to be none other than the Count himself. So, Dr. Van Helsing, Dr. Seward, and Harker work together to foil the Count's plans to take Lucy away to his native Transylvania.
This is basically another Hammer movie, even shot at Shepperton Studios.
This one stars Frank (DIARY OF A MAD HOUSEWIFE) Langella, Laurence (MARATHON MAN) Olivier, Donald (THE MUTATIONS) Pleasence, Kate (WITHOUT A TRACE) Nelligan, Trevor (IVANA TRUMP'S FOR LOVE ALONE) Eve and more.
A ship is wrecked near Whitby in England. Upon inspection, there is no one aboard except the tied and slain captain, a gruesome sight...
It doesn't take long before Dracula's creeping around, looking for a victim. And, what's better than little Mina Van Helsing!
Soon, Lucy goes to the Count's place for a trist. Man, the place is dripping with atmosphere!!
Love blooms from a little ol' bite into a big ol' pile of crazy bliss an' stuff!
Jonathan Harker uses every trick in the book to try and get his precious Lucy back!
Man, I just love this shot, reminds me of someone!
Love this shot too, Van Helsing and Harker, in a quick little boat, catch the ship carrying the Count and board it.
They find Lucy and the Count in their coffin, it's time to end the madness!
As always, easier said than done, especially when dealing with monsters! Distracted, Van Helsing waits just a second too long and ends up with the stake through his own gut!
Jonathan is somehow able to hook Dracula on a hoist and the Count is slung up a long mast into the sunlight... And gets baked alive!
Lucy returns to normal as Jonathan looks up at the withered Count.
But, we hear the Count give out a howl as he drifts away from the ship and into the air, disappearing from sight. Lucy weeps for her lost love! That's it for today, check back Wednesday for even more junk for you, here, at The Dungeon!!..
