PETER GUNN - Episode 01 - "The Kill" (1958)

It is time for another "Saturday Night Smokin' Gun Special" down in Dungeon!

From 1958, it's the first episode of the "Peter Gunn" TV series!

 The theme from the TV series "Peter Gunn" was written by Henry Mancini, and because of it, he won an Emmy and two Grammies. The song has since been recorded by everyone from Duane Eddy to Jimi Hendrix, to The Cramps, to The Art Of Noise, but is Henry Mancini in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Hell No! He might not have been a rocker, but he wrote one of the rockinest songs of all time, and after listening to about twenty cool covers, it still doesn't get any better than the original!

Go On! Give it another listen! 

This is a song you can never get tired of! It can be played by a surf band or a punk band or a full orchestra, it doesn't matter!

The first episode of "Peter Gunn" was titled "The Kill!"
 This 'live' version of "Peter Gunn" by Jeff Beck and company kills it too!

Craig (The Deadly Mantis) Stevens is, was, and will always be, Peter Gunn! Craig was in 114 episodes of "Peter Gunn" from 1958 to 1961!

 By just looking at these pictures, most people would probably believe you if you told them this was a German Krimi movie!

Replete with an iconic band in a club!

Hope (Rock-A-Bye-Baby) Emerson is Mother! She runs a clean joint!

Lola Albright was not only Edie Hart, Peter Gunn's main squeeze, she was also actually a singer in real life!

Put "Ville" on the back of almost any word, and it automatically makes it cooler!
"Dreamsville" also featured Hank Mancini and orchestra.

Lovely Lola spent most of her life acting on various TV shows, but one movie of note she was in was "The Monolith Monsters," and she was also in "Kid Galahad" with Elvis.

"Peter Gunn" is a very atmospheric show.

Of course their relationship is challenged!

Elite if you're a gangster!

When Mother won't pay the mobsters, the dirty bastards bomb her club!

Peter Gunn is through messing around with these thugs! 

Blowing up Mother's club was the last straw!

If you like hot chicks, cool jazz, and blazing guns, you'll love "Peter Gunn."

It's just that simple!

"Peter Gunn" was written by Blake Edwards.

 Yep, the same Blake Edwards responsible for "The Pink Panther!"

Blake Edwards also created such thrilling shows as "Dante," "Richard Diamond, Private Detective," and "Mr. Lucky!" It all came to a halt in 2010 when Blake passed away at the age of 88, but what an amazing legacy he left behind!

THE THREE STOOGES / A Plumbing We Will Go - 1940

Time for some laffs... Here's a hilarious episode where the boys try their hand at plumbing, and, you know things will turn out for the worse when the Stooges show up at the house of some wealthy party goers to fix a small water leak!

It all begins in court, the Stooges are accused of stealing chickens, but, the judge lets them go because of flimsy evidence even though Curly's jacket was filled with chicken feathers!

The boys are a little jumpy when it comes to cops, even a mannequin!

Having to escape from the cops again, they hide in a magician's magic box, which makes the crowd laff at their silly escapades. The magician's like, what the Hell?

Still running from the cops, the boys commandeer Casey The Plumber's truck and the cop ends up in a cement trough!

They stop when a butler flags them down, they're late! The boys are ready to get to work and earn some cash. The first thing Larry does is put a hole in the heater duct!

It's not too hard to figure out where this is headed!

Curly's upstairs in the bathroom. he has piped himself into a corner so the speak. So, he drills a hole in the floor, then falls into the basement, scaring Moe!

Moe tells Curly to get more pipes! So, he finds some electrical piping that then causes a whole new host of problems, like here in the kitchen!

This is 1940, so, it's amazing to have a television set. She turns it on, and...

Oh, what a wonder, isn't it great to watch Niagara Falls on the television!..

Anyway, it's time for the boys to move on after causing a ton of trouble.

The magician is performing outside the mansion, the Stooges run out of the magic box followed by the police and then motorcycle cops. A perfect Stooge ending. Tune in tomorrow when we return with something special, just for you!..

BLACK ROSES - "Count The Petals And The Thorns" (1988)

 It's a 'We Will Rock You Wednesday' down in The Dungeon, and another one of those wacky rockin' horror shows from the 80's!

This Heavy Metal gem is called "Black Roses," which is also the name of the band from Hell featured in the movie!!

"Black Roses" is also the name of my favorite song from an album by Clear Light in 1965. I always thought Elektra Records thought they could sell Clear Light as a mixture of The Doors and Love, but then that's just my humble opinion!

This song is actually better than any of the music in this movie!

 In a nutshell, this wildly popular Metal band named Black Roses are set to perform an all weekend gig in a small town out in the middle of nowhere. Up to this moment, they've only been a studio band, and this is their first time performing 'Live," or "Dead," if that's what you prefer. The local townfolk ain't too hip on the idea, but after they see what a bunch of decent young people they are, they change their mind! The concert starts with a horrible Metal ballad, so seeing that everything's okay, the adults all leave........

 Off come the coats and out come the leather and the hard riffs!

 The kids all go wild!!

 Creatures from Hell start popping up all over the place!

 It's a good thing the needle is not really on the record, because it looks like it's gonna skip!

 Strange Things are happening everywhere!

 After this transformation, the kids seem very dull in skool the next day!

 Some of the songs are performed by the Black Roses, but they weren't really a group per se, but more of an amalgamation put together by drummer Carmine Appice of the original Vanilla Fudge band. There were real bands in history named both Black Rose, and The Black Roses, but neither of them have anything to do with this movie!
Catchy title, "Black Rose" has been used many times as a song title, most notably by Waylon Jennings, and Thin Lizzy etc.

 Just to show how evil he now is, this kid shoots his Dad for no other reason!

 The cute sweet girl gets turned into this vampire thing!

 The demons are now running the show! This thing's pretty creepy!

 For the final encore, Sal Viviano as Damien shows his true side!

 First off comes the wig!

 Next............Meltdown!!

Now this IS legitimate Death Metal!!

 Amazingly, the band didn't even have to wear makeup!

 You know when you have that feeling that you're in the wrong place at the wrong time!
"Black Roses" is a total waste of time, but it's kinda fun, and it really does have a cast that includes some very interesting people, like Julie Adams from "Creature From The Black Lagoon," (Julie just passed away in February at the age of 92, and will be greatly missed), Disney animator Frank Dietz as a demon guitarist, and Vincent Pastore aka Salvatore 'Big Pussy' Bonpensiero of "Sopranos" fame!
