HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM - Gerard Schurmann - "Guillotine Scene" (1959)

Seems like more than ever, everyone's trying to get ahead in this world, like a bunch of crabs in a barrel all scratching and pulling each other back down in an effort to get to the top. It's been that way for years, & especially in the movies. In this wild scene from "Horrors Of The Black Museum," not only are the weirdos trying to get to the top, they are also literally trying to get a Head! Portable guillotines are pretty effective tools no doubt! Man, that was brutal for 1959, and Michael Gough, although not in this scene, is tremendously sinister the whole rest of the film!

REVENGE OF THE CREATURE - Lava/Stein - "Lobster House Jam" (1955)

Every once in a while, you gotta throw in a classic, and they don't get much classier that the 1955 Universal production, "Revenge Of The Creature." Here's a great scene, coming directly from "The Lobster House," and hold on, cause the joint is jumpin'! John & Lori are getting all hot and bothered when the Creature makes an untimely party-crashing appearance, whisks her away and makes a 3 point dive into the water with her in tow! The music's by Bill Lava, who had a stunning musical career in cartoons & movies dating back to the 30's, and still yet, another Stein, Herman this time, who helped compose music for "Tarantula," "This Island Earth," "The Incredible Shrinking Man," "The Monolith Monsters," and a slew of other features. These two guys resumes combined will make your head spin like a satellite knocked out of orbit! Incredible!!

Here's a bonus gratuitous shot of a very young and uncredited Clint Eastwood from an earlier scene. Clint also appeared in "Tarantula." So there you have it, trombones, giant spiders and more!!

X : THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES - Les Baxter - "The Party" (1963)

Legacy, travesty, It all happened in Ray Milland's award-winning career. He was a truly fine actor, and is perfect in the role of Dr. Xavier in this movie. 10 years later, he's sharing a body with Rosey Grier and gets stuck in "Frogs." Not a very pretty picture, but in this film & this scene in particular, he does a fantastic job of mentally going from being a doctor to thinking like a 13 year old kid, when he suddenly realizes he can see through all the girl's clothes. The smoking sounds of Les Baxter keep the party rolling in the background. Great movie, period!!X-Ray Party

NIGHT TIDE - Paul Horn Combo - "West Coast Club Scene" (1961)

Here's the place where you can read the complete press kit for "Night Tide." www.milestonefilms.com/pdf/Nighttide.pdf There is an uncanny amount of information, quotes, and bibliographical information about Dennis Hopper & director/writer Curtis Harrington and every other part of the film except, what else, who are the players in the club? Yeah, they tell us over and over that the incredible Paul Horn is the flautist in the club scene, but for the other guys, Nada! I'm sorry, I want to know who's playing the trumpet, bass & drums too! Here's the short opening theme... Night Tide
(Fifteen years later, thanks to you astute readers, we now know that the players were Joe Gordon - trumpet, Jimmy Bond - bass, and Kenny Dennis on drums. Thanks people!)
....and some seriously cooking music from the first point that Dennis Hopper comes on the scene. Probably THE coolest jazz from any movie of any time! "Great combo!" Indeed!!!!! Paul Horn Combo Paul Horn later in his career would record an album inside "The Great Pyramid," he also was the reed man in "Bucket Of Blood!" Yes, Paul is one of THE hippest men on the planet! And there's even more!! Now, really do yourself a favor, find a DVD somewhere & enjoy something special for a change, & don't forget to get yourself some fish & chips to go with it too, for the complete experience!

These people are so cool, they're drinking Pabst!!

ANATOMY OF A PSYCHO - "The Card Game" (1961)

This is another one of those films where you can find out everything, except information on the music. We can tell you that "Anatomy Of A Psycho" is a dingy, dirty, creepy movie with a Very Cool soundtrack. It seems one third of the writing credits goes to some guy named Larry Lee (Edward Wood Jr.), one third was written by Don Devlin, who also plays Moe in this film, and one third was written by Jane Mann who also wrote "The Unearthly," which featured Tor Johnson, who I'm sure passed himself off as Curly every once in a while, so it's no wonder this Mickey Psycho character is so crazy!! This neat little tune is off in the background, but it sure sets a great scene! And now for a short public service announcement, just in case you wondered folks, it's probably not a real great idea to give booze to psychos. Thank-you!

THE GHOST IN THE INVISIBLE BIKINI - Quinn O'Hara/Piccola Pupa - "Fight Songs" (1966)

"The Ghost In The Invisible Bikini" is a story about conflicts, and as such, reminds us greatly of Tolstoy's "War And Peace," only in technicolor! The basic struggles of the Proletariat are defined in musical strokes of genius by the characters of Piccola Pupa & Quinn O'Hara in their opposing thoughts. Shall we the people, "Stand Up And Fight?" or shall we give up and give in and "Don't Try To Fight It Baby." The choices are clear, the decision is yours, to rent or to buy??
