1970's QUASI-SCARY TV MOVIES!

Here's a list of 13 TV movies made in the 1970's that either I, or Lord Litter, have found on the Internet Archive (And you could too for free) that I'm almost sure I'm never going to get around to watching, but should somehow be included here at least for historical significance! With that said........

....Here we go! In chronological order starting with...

"Weekend Of Terror" from 1970 with Robert Conrad, Carol Lynley, and Lee Majors!
"Three nuns on a weekend trip are held hostage by escaped convicts."
Sounds like a good time, how could you go wrong there?!?

From 1971, "A Howling In The Woods" starring Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden who were both not only in "I Dream Of Jeannie," but also on "Dallas!!"

The 1972 ghost story "The Stone Tape!"

Barbara Eden is back in the 1972 movie, "The Woman Hunter" with two other Dungeon notables, Robert Vaughn and Stuart Whitman!
 "There's A Killer In Paradise!"

Also in 1972 was "Night Of Terror" with Martin Balsam, Chuck Connors, Donna Mills, and Agnes Moorehead!
"He's Out There!"

1973 delivered "A Cold Night's Death" with Robert Culp and Eli Wallach!

Also in 1973 came "The Norliss Tapes" with Roy Thinnes and Angie Dickinson!!
"Once the demon is awakened he will be granted immortality!"

The cast of the 1974 movie "Scream Of The Werewolf" was a fairly all-star affair that included Peter Graves, Clint Walker, Jo Ann Pflug, and Don Megowan, who ironically enough or not, was the Sheriff in the 1956 classic, "The Werewolf!"

The 1974 movie "The Day The Earth Moved" also had a cast of immense pop culture proportions, that included Jackie Cooper, Clevon Little, Stella Stevens, and Beverly Garland, but I still doubt I'll ever watch it!

"Curse Of The Black Widow" from 1977 also had a fairly all-star cast that included
Anthony Franciosa, Donna Mills, Patty Duke, June Lockhart and Sid Caesar!
Big Girl!!

"Night Terror" aka "Night Drive" also came out in 1977 with Valerie Harper!
Housewife vs. Psycho!

By 1978, it was time for "Devil Dog:Hound Of Hell," with a killer cast that included Richard Crenna, Yvette Mimieux, and Martine Beswick! (Okay, I might have to watch it some day just for those two!)
"A Halloween Howler!"

"A teenage girl is harassed by a stalker" in another 1978 movie called "Are You In The House Alone?"
So, there you go! IF I've slighted your favourite movie, then by all means leave a comment, and I'll make sure and give it the treatment it deserves, but until then, Aloha, Auf Wiedersehen, & Buenos Noches!

NIGHT OF THE LEPUS / A.C. Lyles Productions - 1972

Welcome to Friday Night Drive-In with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. Tonite's offering had a fairly large budget for 1972, $900,000! It's all about big mutant wabbits (lepus) living underground in Ajo, Arizona!!

Our story starts with a dire warning from the International community when it comes to dealing with wascally wabbits!

The music is by Jimmie Haskell, who's had a pretty interesting career as a composer. He did the music for SURF PARTY, WILD ON THE BEACH, THE WICKED DREAMS OF PAULA SCHULTZ, DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY and a flick near and dear to us at The Dungeon, ZACHARIAH! He also worked on Krofft's DR. SHRINKER for Saturday morning TV.

Lettuce bring in our lil' Friday Night fiend and button pusher, sure 'nuf, Rufus The Gnat!.. Hooray for Rufus! Whenever we see the fly guy, welp, it means that he's ready to start our Eariffic Soundclip, so, push the big red 'GO' button, now, Rufus! Here're some sounds from... NIGHT OF THE LEPUS!

Here are Rory (MOTEL HELL) Calhoun as Cole, our man Stuart (DEATHWORK) Whitman as Roy, Janet (PSYCHO) Leigh as Gerry and what's his name back there. Roy and Gerry are zoologists there to help Cole figure out an ecologically sound way to deal with the varmints on his property.

Let's not forget about DeForest Kelley who plays the pouty, Elgin Clark. Imagine, being named after a clock and have the last name of a candy bar!

Some of the other farmers, though, just like to watch things blow the Hell up...

Lesson: Don't stop your stupid truck in East Podunk late at night just to check your damn load!

...SEE!!

Looks like the Lepus have a bad case of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN!

Hey, and this looks like it could be from a new version of THEM!

When I saw this shot of looking up from inside the hole, I decided to put up my painting from 1985 called EXTERMINATORS: 2062, because of the likeness.

...A few more explosions before we move along.

Hell, they're no messier than most people!

Hewp, wabbits on da' wun!

They break into the general store and grab a few snacks!

Really nice miniature work!

Looks like the director's going to yell 'cut' here in a second!

Ahhh, the good old days, when things were a bit simpler.

Attention! Attention! Ladies and gentlemen, attention! There's a herd of killer rabbits headed this way and we desperately need your help!.. Officer Lopez needs everbloody to leave the drive-in and go to a designated area so they can line their cars up side by side and form a headlight wall to repel the oncoming horde.

Meanwhile, back at the junction, the electric company prepares a high-voltage death trap for the lumbering mutant invaders!

And... Here they come!!

KA-EFFIN-ZAP-A-ROONIE!!!

Mmmm, mmm! Smews dewicious, weady for some fwied wabbit?..

EATEN ALIVE / Mars Productions Corporation - 1976

It's Friday, and, time for more Halloween Countdown fodder for the masses!.. This story is about Judd, he runs the run down Starlight Hotel out in a swampy place outside of town and is unfortunately a real nut job, and, has a crocodile conveniently placed in the water below the hotel's front porch railing! The monster will eat just about anything, as the hapless guests at the hotel are about to find out! A reformed hooker and the father and sister of the girl all suffer various types of terror as Judd tries to cover up the crimes.

This Toby Hooper production stars Neville (WITHOUT WARNING) Brand as Judd, Mel (NIGHTMARE CITY) Ferrer as Harvey Wood, Carolyn (THE ADDAMS FAMILY) Jones as Miss Hattie, Marilyn (THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE) Burns as Faye, William (PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE) Finley as Roy, Stuart (SHOCK TREATMENT) Whitman as Sheriff Martin and Robert (Freddy) Englund as Buck.

Get used to this spot in the movie, it's the railing that has a giant crocodile that dwells in the water at Judd's beat up Starlight Hotel. Here's Judd tossing a woman into the water after attacking her with a steel rake!

Visiting Roy is drunk on his ass and wants to shoot a crocodile, you know, booze and guns! They use a red filter to designate dusk here. Anyway, Judd attacks Roy with his trusty sickle, then, as he's laying against the rail, the croc pulls his ass into the water, never to be seen again!!

Later, Sheriff Martin takes Harvey over to see Miss Hattie to discuss his problems. She gives him some insight into the disappearance of his daughter and they leave.

Harvey goes back to the hotel to confront Judd about his daughter, Judd grabs his sickle again and charges at the unsuspecting victim!

In a bizarre scene, the sickle gets stuck through Harvey's neck, pretty sickening! Judd has trouble getting the sickle out of Harvey's neck but he eventually tosses him into the water just like all the others!!

Buck and his girlfriend are horny and go to the hotel for some fun, but, Buck ends up in the water and the crocodile chomps away on him too! Wow, Robert looks so young here!

Oh yeah, there's a little girl there that gets chased by Judd, she hides under the hotel and has to crawl through a ton of creepy spider webs!! Judd is ready to grab her when the Sheriff shows up, whew!..

Back in the mad hotel, Judd is trying to catch two girls that got loose. He charges at one of them and almost falls out the window, then, pushes the other girl through the railing and she ends up on the floor below, battered!

Then, the little girl barely escapes when the croc chases her under the hotel. She gets hung up on the wire fence and is an easy target for the monster that has gone back into the water!

Judd is trying to shake the little girl loose from the fence, when, the wounded girl shows up and pushes Judd over the fence and onto the ground at the edge of the water. And, guess what happens next?!..

So, there you have it, the little girl is saved and everything turns out as good as it could! Tune in tomorrow when Eegah!! takes the pumpkin by the vines!!
