ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN / "The Deserted Village" - 1952

In today's adventure, Lois has trouble getting a friend on the telephone in her home town, so she and Clark drive to the small town of Cliffton to see what the problem is. They find that the town is mostly deserted, and the remaining townsfolk don't seem to want them to know anything about the situation.

Lois gets a gingerbread man in the mail and she wants to thank her friend for sending it to her. No one is answering the phone so she tells Clark. He suggests that they drive to Cliffton to see what the problem might be.

When they get there, Clark notices that someone has crossed out the numbers and now it shows that only five people live in Cliffton!

Then we see this weirdo spraying some kind of gas and then breaking window panes, apparently so the gas goes into the house... .

Clark and Lois decide to go into the house of her doctor when she lived there, they find him on the floor. Clark locates some smelling salts which brings him out of his stupor.

Well, with the doctor in tow, Lois finds her friend, Mrs. Tazey. Both residents want Lois and Clark to leave town, there's no problem here! But when Clark picks up a basket for the lady, he notices a hidden gas mask in it...

Two other people there are store owner Peter Godfrey and his son Alvin, they seem a little suspicious if you know what I mean.

Godfrey's out spying on Clark, but, he gets a glimpse of Superman instead!

Lois goes off on her own and searches for clues in a mine... She finds something!

Good stuff here. Clark knows that the gas the killer is using is deadly and wants Lois to go back to town and stay there while he tries to find out what the stakes are. Lois thinks that Clark's trying to steal her story and they get in a Hell of a fight, best one I've seen between the two!

Superman takes off with the stakes to find out their use from a mining authority.

Even though she promised Clark that she'd go back to town, Lois goes back into the mine, where, the Gasser is waiting for her! Yeah, she should have listened to Clark alright!

The doctor comes in to try and help Lois, only to be conked on the head with a shovel.

Look who it is that saves the day!.. It's Mrs. Tazey with a gas mask and a pistol...

Not that Superman needs any help though...

Yep, it was Godfrey and Alvin to be sure, you see, the mine was full of an element used in making hydrogen bombs!!!.. And that's why they were killing off the locals. They also have a dog die because of the gas! Some of these episodes were brutal at times! Tune in tomorrow when we keep that big ball a-rollin' down that old dusty trail...

THE THREE STOOGES TV PILOT - "Jerks Of All Trades" (1949)

Here's a Wacky Wednesday feature that's about as weird as they get!
It was a failed TV episode by The Three Stooges that was made in 1949!

Here's Moe!

Here's Shemp!

And here's Larry!

Jerks of all trades, you can see a couple things they specialize in are being "Skyhiatrists" and "Uptometrists," but for this episode they are "Inferior Designers!"

The show was basically a rehash of dozens of gags they've done time and time again, with plenty of bonking, smacking, and slapping involved!

A Mr. Pennyfeather comes in to get the boys to do some painting for him, and instead he gets painted, pissed off, and leaves! Mr. Pennyfeather was played by Emil (13 Frightened Girls) Sitka.

They use the old 'push in one file and another comes out and bonks you' gag along with many others!

The boys get a phone call from a lady who wants them to come over and paint her house quickly, because he her husband's boss is coming over for dinner, so they want the place looking perfect!
The lady turns out to be Mrs. Pennyfeather, and is played by Symona (Get Along Little Zombie) Boniface who was in many a short feature as women with names like Mrs. DePuyster, or Mrs. Hickenlooper.

Of course the Stooges proceed to destroy the place in record time!

My favorite bit was is when she tells them to be very careful with this picture of her daughter done by the famous painter Whisler!

Of course Moe starts peeling back layers immediately, and each one he pulls off the girl has less clothes on!

The next layer reveals that she's down to a bikini!

The boys start frantically tearing at the picture to see what's next!

But instead of a naked girl, it's a portrait of some witch, and then they get punched in the face!

Paint's flying everywhere, Moe even paints Larry's ass!

The destruction goes on for like what seems forever!

For a little break in the action and to kill a little time, they bring in Joseph Kearns as a door to door salesman with a bad memory, so every time Moe disrupts his sales pitch, he has to start over again from the beginning.
Joseph Kearns was the Voice of The Doorknob in Disney's "Alice In Wonderland," and was also Mr. Wilson on the "Dennis The Menace" TV show.

Mr. Pennyfeather comes home and can't believe his wife has hired the same morons he went to see.

More and more mayhem ensues, the cream pies come out, and Mrs. Pennyfeather lets her husband have it right in the kisser with one!

Shemp tries to hide disguised as a lamp!

The Stooges finally get their just rewards from the Pennyfeathers!

Pretty funny if you're a fan, but I guess the studio didn't see anything new happening, and probably decided that The Stooges couldn't keep up the momentum. After all, they pretty much played every card they had in just the one show!

LIGHTS OUT / "The Mad Dullaghan" - 1951

In today's story, Steve Denham locates his missing fiance, 'Kitty' Riordan, in a mental hospital, she believes that she's possessed by a Dullaghan, a spirit from Irish folklore that enters a person through an open mouth! The thing must have possessed her when she kissed her father farewell at his funeral. Steve investigates and learns that her father had been a famous ventriloquist, and his dummy was named Mr. Dullagham.

It stars Glenn (THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, MUTINY IN SPACE) Langdon, Stella (lots of British TV) Andrew, Berry (THE TIME TRAVELERS) Kroeger, Doris (the excitable Mrs. Clause in SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS) Rich and Frank Gallop as the narrator.

Frank really likes to get in your face when it's time to start the show, and, he has some things for you to think about before the credits roll, you know, creepy stuff...

It stars with Steve Denham locating his fiance at a mental hospital, she has been missing for ten days. He talks with her doctor about the case...

Kitty is brought in and she tells Steve to just forget about her, she's now possessed by a freaking Dullaghan, things can never be the same again... And, she's KWAZY!

The doctor does a few tests and the Dullaghan, exposed, starts speaking through Kitty's voice after she gets a headache...

Steve decides to go to the place where Kitty's father lived. He's greeted by a sauced Madame Flora, she's the landlady, the place is for actors and performers only, which her father was.

She fills Steve in on all the details about Kitty's father and asks him if he'd like to check out the dummy, Mr. Dullaghan. She opens the trunk where it's stored and Steve looks it over before he heads back to the hospital to see Kitty.

The little dummy definitely has a sinister look to him...

Steve goes to Kitty's room and says that the whole thing was in her mind and that he's there for her and everything will be fine! Kitty wants to believe, but, she gets a headache just before!..

Her and Steve give each other a big old passionate kiss!

And viola, Steve is now the one possessed by that gall danged Dullaghan!! Nice twist for a good old horror ending.

Frank tries to scare us one last time before meeting again in a week's time. Eegah!! will be here on Wednesday with another load of something for us, even though we all seem to be in a reality show horror movie...
