THE SNOOP SISTERS - "A Black Day For Bluebeard" (1974)

It's time for a Snoop Sisters Saturday Night Halloween Countdown Special!

"The Snoop Sisters" were only on for what is considered one season, and there were only five episodes total, but those six episodes stretched from December 18, 1972 until March 19, 1974.
Funny math!

"A Black Day For Buebeard" was the last of the episodes!

The special guest star for this episode was Mr. Vincent Price.

For a couple of older ladies, "The Snoop Sisters" are a barrel of laughs! That's Helen Hayes as Ernesta Snoop, and Mildred Natwick as Gwendolyn Snoop Nicholson! They're in costume because they are headed for a movie premiere, a tribute to their friend, the classic horror star Michael Bastion.

Michael Bastion makes a melodramatic entrance after a hearse drives up to the front of the theatre and they unload a coffin with him inside.

Of course, Michael Bastion is played by Vincent Price!

Always perfect timing, Michael's wife Amanda as played by Tammy Grimes, has just let him know that she has filed for a divorce!
In 1966, Tammy had her own TV show, "The Tammy Grimes Show," but it only lasted for six episodes.

"Gravely Yours" was a Michael Bastion retrospective.

This scene from the past is pretty telling considering what's about to happen!

There's only one problem. The only person enjoying the movie is Michael himself!

Michael goes to the restroom to check his makeup and when he gets back to his seat, he finds out that somebody has just stabbed his wife to death!

Michael gets arrested obviously, and now it's up to the Snoop Sisters to untangle the whole mess, starting with getting him out of jail.
These two are so cute together, it's a real shame the series didn't last longer.

Just like Vincent Price, Michael Bastion is also a supreme chef, so Gwendolyn arranges for him to make her lunch because they need to keep him distracted for a couple of hours. He wines and dines her, and she gets pretty drunk after about four bottles of very expensive wine. It's all quite humorous!

Gwendolyn is drinking so much, Michael becomes very animated and quite exasperated!

It's a good thing Ernesta finally calls to let her know she can stop the charade.

This is a great shot and as good a place as any to let you know that some of the other awesome cast members included names like.........

...........Roddy (Planet Of The Apes) McDowall,

Bert (A Bucket Of Blood) Convy,

William (266 Episodes of Knot's Landing) Devane,

David (The Big Lebowski) Huddleston, and.......

.......One of THE best comedians of all time, Mort Sahl.

Well, I hate to give away the ending, but he was innocent!

MIDNIGHT LACE - Doris Day - "The Strangest Most Terrifying Game" (1960)

Tonight's Saturday Night Special is a movie I first saw a long, long time ago. It was made in 1960, and is titled......

.........."Midnight Lace!"

"Midnight Lace" stars Doris Day, whose body of film work is usually confined to the puppies and cotton candy realm, so it freaked me out as a kid to see her in a movie like this, kind of like how I felt when Frankie Avalon got stabbed in "The Haunted House Of Horror!"

Doris is a rich American in London!

Her British husband is played by the always charming Rex (Dr. Dolittle) Harrison!

I look at this shot, and the word 'stuffy' comes to mind first thing!

Hence the title "Midnight Lace!"

The 'Danger' signs come into play more than once to help deliver the foreboding overall feel!

has the role of an annoying possible suspect, a role that fits him well!

But all in all, "Midnight Lace" is basically a suspenseful showcase for Doris Day!

Gee Willikers, where's Rock Hudson when you need him?

Not really the best time to be celebrating anything!

Doris is stuck in the dark and claustrophobic lift going up to her flat!

These days any prank, annoying, or threatening phone call you make can probably be traced back to you, but back in the day when phone booths existed, it was a lot easier to hassle people on the phone anonymously! Like today, if you called your local dive bar and asked for mouse knuckles like Tabonga and I used to do, you'd probably have the authorities up your butt in no time at all!

Doris just turned 96 four days ago on April 3rd!

In a 60's male-dominated society, "Midnight Lace" was a film that had a female in the lead role, and supporting roles like Myrna (Nora Charles) Loy, and......

.....Natasha (The Fourth Square) Parry! Oddly enough, Natasha was also in another movie with the word midnight in the tile in 1950, "Midnight Episode!"

I don't have the exact calculations, but I'd bet that close to 40% of "Midnight Lace" is different head shots of Doris Day!

Doris Day has 43 acting credits to her name, but she was also a very successful singer, and songs with her vocals have been used in movies 117 times and growing, and that's why she will never be forgotten, because of songs like "Dream A Little Dream," "Tea For Two," and "Que Sera, Sera!"
Belated Happy Birthday Doris!! We love you!

IT! - "Curse Of The Golem" (1967)

Tonight's Saturday Night Special is one of the few monster movies from the 60's that we haven't done yet, so let's just check it out, because although it's kind of silly, it's really not too bad!

It's called "It!" and/or sometimes, "Curse Of The Golem!"

The star of the show is Dungeon perennial favourite Roddy (Planet Of The Apes) McDowall!

So just what is a Golem anyway? In Jewish folklore, a Golem is an animated anthropomorphic
being that is magically created entirely from inanimate matter like clay or mud! In this film, it is a sculpture!

This Golem appears to be having his way with this guy, and although he can move his arms and legs, this time he just fell straight down and crushed the guy under the weight of his 3000 pounds!

I love London's swingin' sixties neon lights!!

This is Roddy's wishshewas girlfriend as played by Jill (Horror House) Haworth in this dream sequence!

Roddy manages to take the Golem out for a destructive walk! I guess everybody was too stoned to notice!!

This shot is the epitome of non-hippie 1967 in my less than humble opinion!

Roddy can't take any more of the mayhem and murder and commands the Golem to go away and not come back, and when that doesn't work, he tries to set him on fire!!

Next thing he knows, the Golem is back in the museum!

Great shot of Roddy's pad!

The Golem is a lost and lonely soul! He was just doing what was asked of him!

The Golem is one tough customer! First they try and take him out with a bazooka blast, and then a tank, and when that doesn't work...........

...............They go completely mind-boggling insane.......and...

......Hit the Golem with a nuclear bomb!! WTF?!!

And even that doesn't stop the thing!!!

In the end, the only thing that can destroy the Golem, is the Golem himself, and that's what he chooses to do, and he walks off into the ocean and away from all the destruction caused by man that was far worse than anything he had done!! Talk about a story about misunderstanding! Wow!!
