Tonight's Wacky Wednesday feature is Episode 13 of "The Gong Show."
I'm telling you, probably just like you, I've been in need of a good laugh, and "The Gong Show" was just what the Doctor ordered!
The gorgeous Swedish actress Sivi Aberg was the hostess on some of the shows. Sivi was in three of the "Batman" TV shows, twice as Mimi, and once as Undine.
Singer/songwriter, the "Phantom Of The Paradise" himself, Paul Williams was one of the judges on this episode!
How can you not love Jaye P. Morgan? She's beautiful, irreverent, and spontaneous. I think they had to censor her more than anybody!
All-Star and MVP Major League baseball player Steve Garvey was judge number three on this show.
Steve had a .294 batting average, was in ten all-star games, and holds the record in the National League for most consecutive games played at 1,207, and is somehow not in the Baseball Hall Of Fame! Bizarre!
The first act up on this episode was a great Mexican band called Los Nones!
Los Nones nail their song, but they keep looking at the judges like they expect to be gonged at any given second!
Well, that wasn't going to happen, and they get three 10's for their effort!
That's going to be hard to beat!
Next up is David Lusher and his tuba.
Jaye P. gives him a 10, but the guys only give him a 5 and a 3.
If they get gonged I don't get to see their names on the marquee, but only hear them, so I have to guess that this woman was introduced as Eva Eve Van Delf.
Eva warbles a cover of The Beatles' "Yesterday" while looking down at her pregnant stomach!
Rightfully so, she gets gonged!
Rob Fauerbmih does a fairly straight dramatic interpretation!
He didn't get gonged, but he only got 18 points.
Ramona McQuirter had a great voice, but only got 29 points!
Chuck Wykoff gives a dramtic reading about Vikings that gets off-colour!
They usually get gonged when the censor goes off, and this guy was no exception!
Jaye P. Says she gonged his suit!
William J. Fauntonbury is amazing! It takes some kind of speial talent to be off beat this far, but William pulls it off masterfully!
Los Nones had the lead from the start and never gave it up, and go home the victors!
It sure would be nice if somebody could find a vault, or a trailer, or a garage with some high quality copies of "The Gong Show," but I don't think it's ever going to happen, so in the meantime, I'll just keep enjoying these funky VHS copies!
Better than nothing!
