THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS - "Made To Kill Or Love On Demand" (1965)

Welcome to another Saturday Night Special down in The Dungeon! Unlike a lot of movies we've showcased here, "The Human Duplcators" is indeed special in many ways starting with this cool poster that has absolutely nothing to do with the movie at all, and contains one giant omission!

"The Human Duplicators" is a sonofabitch of a movie to try and find these days, but with a little luck, and a lot of perserverance, you just might find a copy, and believe me, it will be worth the effort!

Yeah, I know it looks like a Tiffany lampshade or a spinning top, but that's just because these aliens have class!

Okay, let's get this space story spinning! Here's Dungeon Super Hero Richard Kiel coming in for a landing on earth as Dr. Kolos! Opening scene, big space alien, back it up a little, do you see Richard Kiel's name on that poster anywhere? Yeah, me neither! Sinful! It's amazing because he's not the star, but he IS the real main character! Nary a mention, I still can't believe it! And besides that, he's the biggest character on the poster! Incredible!

Richard Kiel is indeed a true hero, scraping his way to somewhere close to the top, and then basically out of a job! At 7' 2" I guess they just couldn't find enough roles for him, but Richard's roles in weirdass cult movies is unsurpassed! Here's just a partial list: Richard was The Solarite in "The Phantom Planet," Richard was Kanamit in the "Twilight Zone" episode titled "To Serve Man," Richard was the one and only Eegah in frickin' "Eegah," for Christ's sake, Richard was the Giant in "House Of The Damned,"  and Richard was also in "The Nutty Professor," "The Nasty Rabbit," and "Two On A Guillotine" and that was all before "The Human Duplicators" was made! Of course his most famous role is that of Jaws in the 007 film "The Spy Who Loved Me!"

Pretty interesting that "The Human Duplicators" was made one year before the first "Star Trek" episode ever appeared on TV! Beam me down Boss!!

Basically, the aliens need the Professor that lives in this house because he's working on some sort of cloning device. The aliens need stuff, so they want duplicated doctors to steal it for them! It's a long way around, but that's one way to get there! It would have been simpler to just hire a bunch of thugs! As you can see, Kolos towers over manservant Thor as played by John Indrisano! John was one of those kinds of guys who managed to parlay a whole career out of largely uncredited bit parts as Bartenders, Referees, Chauffeurs, etc in almost 200 productions! John was also a professional welterweight boxer with a record of  47-8-1 who went on to be a referee for over a decade and an adviser in many a boxing film! No, his name's not on the poster either!

After rendering Thor the butler stupid, Kolos explores the house and discovers a young lady playing the piano! It's the lovely daughter of the Professor of the house, darling Dolores Faith as Lisa Dornheimer! Dolores was also in "The Phantom Planet" as Zetha, and then in her third movie, she got a starring role! I'm not sure it did much for her career because it was titled "V.D." and that doesn't exactly stand for Valentines's Day! Dolores had exactly 13 acting credits until she lost faith and decided to do something else!

It's pretty surprising that the Professor can keep his mind on the job, but then he is a professional! The Professor was played by another powerhouse of entertainment history, George Macready! Among a ton of other credits, George was in all four of the 60's classic TV Horror and Sci-Fi shows, "Thriller," Twilight Zone,"The Outer Limits," and "Night Gallery!" His last role was in "The Return Of Count Yorga!" I honestly don't know who the two knockout assistants are, but it's a good guess that one of them is Alean "Bambi" Hamilton!

Ok, this movie hasn't even got started yet! The cloned doctors are breaking and entering and killing too, so it's time for Secret Agent Glenn Martin to step in! Glenn Martin is played by yet another Dungeon Super Hero, George Nader! Try that little search window over there and you'll get at least nine references to George Nader, and I still haven't done all the Jerry Cotton films yet! The talent in this movie will make your head spin, standing across from George is his Boss Austin Welles as played by Hugh Beaumont! Hugh had a massive and varied career, but will be known for all eternity as Ward Cleaver, the Father of The Beaver! 234 episodes of "Leave It To Beaver," that's difficult to even comprehend!

One of the more lesser known blonde bombshells of the 50's and 60's was Barbara Nichols, here as Austin Welles' secretary, and Glenn Martin's girlfriend Gale Wilson! With her wiseguy Brooklyn accent, Barbara was in a different league than a lot of the other girls! Barbara was Liz Powell in the "Twilight Zone" episode titled "Twenty Two!" Unfortunately, she died way too young at the age of 47 of liver failure after being in a couple of auto accidents!

Is this just a great shot of George in a phone booth or not? I love how atmospheric the background is, and the foreground looks like a watercolour painting! This is a good spot to insert a little sound from the club where Glenn is getting ready to meet Gale! The music in "The Human Duplicators" was pretty much stock music of the time! They just had somebody really good picking it out!

Glenn sneaks into the Professor's pad, and finds masks of the suspect thiefs!

Then he opens a few coffins and finds more than a few surprises!

Here's a bit of a progression in the duplicating process! I think this is Kim Satana in her one film outing, no relation to Tura! Either that, or it's Kim Sattin, Tura Satana' sister!

One thing about these clones is that although they are tough to fight, they do break easily! It's like their heads are like one of those stupid and creepy porcelain dolls!

In an effort to make Richard Kiel look like he's 8 feet tall, they have him standing on the top step so it makes George Nader at 6' 1" looks like a midget!

Everything is now officially out of control. The Duplications have taken over, and even the Professor and his assistants aren't real any more! They caught Glenn sneaking around, and now it's his turn to get doubled up!

Meanwhile, Kolos has fallen deeply in love with Lisa Dornheimer, and is not willing to go along with the demands of the Duplications to make a copy of her! He only wants the real thing!

They don't really care what Kolos thinks and proceed with the operation anyway!

It's not too complicated to figure out what happens in the end! "The Human Duplicators" was about the funnest movie I've seen lately on multiple levels! It's like the Woodstock of  'B' movies, it's got that much talent in it, so catch it if you can, and if you just happen to not like it as much as I did, then Go Duplicate Yourself!

SCHÜSSE AUS DEM GEIGENKASTEN - Peter Thomas - "The Violin Case Murders" (1965)

"Schüsse Aus Dem Geigenkasten" or "The Violin Case Murders" was the first in the series of Jerry Cotton films that started in 1965! For me, it's not the best of the bunch, because they were still figuring things out, but just like every other Jerry Cotton film, it's still a fun watch, no matter what!

The Jerry Cotton series were German films about American places and characters! Kind of like me writing stories about some guy in Kiribati, Nauru, Tuvalu, Comoros, or Vanuatu!!

Dungeon Super Hero Peter Thomas once again is the guy in charge of the music! Here's a small sample of what he came up with for this film! Besides being an amazing composer, Peter also developed and used on some of his soundtracks an instrument known as the "Thowiephon," an instrument not nearly as well known as it's cousin the Theremin, but just as cool!

"The Violin Case Murders" was also released as the catchy title "Operation Hurricane: Friday Noon," whatever the Hell that's supposed to mean!

Machine gun inside a violin case, hence "Violin Case Murders!" Pretty nifty, eh?

This is a sample of the end-product of an ancient device known as a typewriter! At one time it was as high tech as an 8 track tape player, and just a few steps forward from cave paintings!

The G Men, and the T men, and the Revenuers too, were lookin' for the place they were cookin' up the stew! Time to call Jerry Cotton out of training!

This, my friends, is a genuine Ford tail light!!

Hubba, Hubba, Happy Birthday to me!!

As in all Jerry Cotton films, green screen is used to the hilt! Sometimes hokey, and sometimes to perfection!

Just to show you how classy they are, the Violin Case gang works out of the local bowling alley! Now it's time for Jerry Cotton to try and infiltrate the gang!! This is an awesome shot of George Nader!!

Jerry takes on the persona of a drunk punk to get to the inside of the out crowd!

Next up on the hit list of people to rob is Grandpa Munster! He pisses off the robbers because he hoards all his jewels and doesn't even share the viewing of them with anyone!

Everything about this shot just absolutely screams 1965!!

This is another great shot of George Nader as Jerry Cotton!

Hey, if you're going to carry machine guns around in violin cases, it's a pretty good idea to at least have some sheet music with you as a cover!

It's going to take a lot more than a switchblade to get rid of Jerry Cotton! Remember this was only the first in the series, there were at least seven more to go!

UM NULL UHR SCHNAPPT DIE FALLE ZU - Peter Thomas - "Jerry Cotton's Day Out" (1966)

There's a lot of fishy stuff going on here! A German film made in New York, and as far as I can tell, "Um Null Uhr Schnappt Die Falle Zu" was never released in America, so I do believe it was originally shot in English and dubbed into German, and if all that isn't basackwards enough, 87% looks like it was shot with Green Screen mixed in with a bunch of stock footage!! It is truly a marvel to behold, and the music by Dungeon superhero Peter Thomas is amazing, constant, and changes from scene to scene! Cheesy, Sleazy, Fat, and Greasy!! J, E, R, R, Y, C, O, T, T, O, N! Yeah!!!

No hesitation here, this film starts off with a Bang, and I'm not talking about Joy!!

I couldn't find on the credits who was responsible for spell checking!! I imagine that's one thing they'll pay more attention to when they bring Jerry Cotton back to the big screen later this year, and hopefully, they'll come up with a better title than "The Trap Snaps Shut At Midnight!"

Here he is, the man of the hour, George Nader as agent Jerry Cotton! George had a pretty amazing career! Signed and screwed by Universal, because they already had enough good looking guys, George was often given secondary roles, and spent a lot of time living in his best friend and lover, Rock Hudson's shadow! He started off in cowboy movies, starred in "Robot Monster," did a shitload of TV shows including a 25 episode run as "Ellery Queen" in '58 and '59, followed by 36 episodes of an ongoing role as Dr. Glen Bartok in "The Man and The Challenge," followed by yet another 36 episodes as Joe Shannon on a TV show called "Shannon," before landing this Jerry Cotton gig.

This is kingpin Larry Link portrayed by prolific German actor Horst Frank! Larry likes to lounge around in this wet room with his cigs, drink, and remote-controlled boat, get massages, and yell at his gang! It's really cool the way he chooses to talk to some person through one of his men, even though the subject he's talking to, is only a few feet away!

This is The Larry Link Gang, composed of Ricky Cooper as Pal, Allen Pinson as Harry, and Alexander Allerson as Husky! Allen Pinson also had a great career as a stunt man before passing away in Visalia, Ca. almost exactly 4 years ago!

It looks like they spent a goodly amount of the budget on Jerry's Jag!! Probably had a rental agreement that forbade the use of the vehicle on any actual roads!

Heinz Weiss had the ongoing role as Jerry's fairly useless partner, Phil Decker through thick and thin!!

It was a gentleman named Lawrence W. Butler came up with the concept of chroma key back in 1940 for the motion picture "The Thief Of Bagdad" starring Sabu, and ended up winning an academy award for "Best Special Effects!"

Lawrence went on to do everything from "The Giant Claw" to "Robinson Crusoe On Mars!" Green Screen aka Blue Screen has been used to create remarkable effects over the years, and these days, any 13 year old kid can do it at home, and tonight's feature is an incredible example of what you can actually get away with, using the process!!!

This whole Jerry as window washer scene is a freakin' gas, and Larry's hoods are starting to get a little uptight!!!

"I said, Beat it!!!"

All I can tell you about the Jack Palance with a bleach blonde wig lookalike Ricky Cooper, is that he was in a total of 5 flicks, and besides playing Pal(They say it Paul), he was Jeff, Ben, L'Américain, and Charlie! Monika Grimm as Ruth Warren makes this two shot complete, especially with that 'Garlic UFO' shaped lamp in the background!

Monika Grimm also had a short stint in the German girl group "The Sweetles," a Beatles tribute band that had a 1964 top forty hit in Germany, with the single "I Want A Beatle For My Birthday."

The lovely Dominique Wilms as Maureen, sells Larry her plan as he is attended to, by one of the guys!!

I just can't resist a good pinball shot, and can you believe that score?!?

Do you really believe there's a windshield in this car???

Larry's gang catches up with Jerry, and Boy, is he in trouble now??

But they still need Jerry alive, so they just tie him up instead of shooting him, and he manages to excape by burning through the ropes binding his hands with a cast off cigarette butt!

Amazing stunts are possible when you know how to use chroma key combined with rear screen projection to your advantage like these folks!!

My buddy in Berlin, Lord Litter, hipped me to the whole Jerry Cotton phenomena, but it was a bummer, because I could not find anything that wasn't region 2 until recently finding out that Sinister Cinema had released 3 or 4 titles that are quite decently priced. I'm going to get a couple more, and you might want to consider it yourself! Time's running out!!!
