TERROR BY NIGHT In Color / Universal Pictures - 1946

It's Mystery Monday with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. We gots the real Sherlock Holmes, Basli Rathbone, and Dr. Watson, Nigel Bruce, in a great little mystery involving the fabled Star of Rhodesia diamond. When it's stolen on a London to Edinburgh train, the son of its owner is murdered and Sherlock Holmes' job is to discover which of the suspicious passengers is responsible, but, this time we'll do it in colour!

Renee (CITIZEN KANE) Godfrey is the mysterious woman, Vivian Vedder. Here, she's purchasing a coffin to take on the train journey, check out the kid in the background! Sadly, the beautiful Renee became ill and died of cancer in 1964 at the young age of 44.

Nice shot of the London train station, Dr. Watson and his pal are late and have to run to barely make it onboard.

Lady Margaret Carstairs, accompanied by her son, is the newest owner of the notorious Star of Rhodesia. It doesn't take very long for the son to die while guarding the diamond, which has now gone missing!

Miss Vedder plays coy when confronted by Holmes, Inspector Lestrade and Dr. Watson.

Watson thinks he has solved the case, but, when the man is asked to present the stolen item, it's just a silver tea pot!.. Oops!

In a tense scene, Holmes is kicked out the open door and has to hang on for dear life before breaking the glass to get back inside! And, who's that mystery man?

The baggage car attendant, who knew of the secret compartment in the coffin discovered by Holmes, is now found dead, with a poisoned dart in his neck!

Yes, the mystery man is none other than Skelton Knaggs! He's Sands, an accomplice (hiding in the coffin) to the real thief, Dr. Watson's pal, Colonel Moran.

Then, it's Sands' turn to taste the poison dart gun, can't have any loose ends, you know!

You really need to watch this one to get all the details, twists and turns, but, the clever Moran arranged for bogus cops to board the train and take him away, after being discovered with the diamond. Holmes has turned the tables once again, though... For one thing, he had the real diamond the whole time, everyone was fighting over a fake duplicate.

The second thing was that when Moran's cops take the cover off of who they think is Moran, well, it's Inspector Lestrade instead! Game Over, Man!!

Holmes presents the Star of Rhodesia and ends a very satisfying tale from the pen of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!!! Don't forget, Eegah!! will have something wild 'n' weird for us on Wednesday!

THE BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW - Marc Wilkinson - "A Living Nightmare" (1971)

"The Blood On Satan's Claw" is a genuine "CHILL-FILLED Festival of HORROR" all right, Yessiree Bob!  Take the words right out of my mouth and welcome to Satan's Saturday Night Special!!

What I just found out was that "The Blood On Satan's Claw" was originally three stories that were blended together like a frozen margarita! When you know that, it makes a lot more sense!

The cinematography by Dick (Twins Of Evil) Bush throughout this film is outstanding, and the music by Marc (IF...) Wilkinson is also very effective!

Yep, this drought is definitely going to affect the farmer's fields of green!

I'm really not kidding, "The Blood On Satan's Claw" would be a better movie if Barry (Dracula Has Risen From The Grave) Andrew's character Ralph wasn't such a buffoon-looking Monte Python reject!

Every time Satan gets into one of these young gals, they start acting all weird for some reason! This girl was only locked into a dusty olde attic for a few hours before she went nuts!

When her fiancé is finally able to get in to see her, this is what he sees. He is consequently attacked, and after a struggle he is finally able to stab his attacker and cut off it's hand before he realizes it's his own hand!

Lovely Linda Hayden has the role of bad girl Angel Blake! Linda's career ran the gamut from "Baby Love" to "Madhouse" to "Queen Kong," and back again! She was still working up until a couple of years ago!

So, when it's all said and dead done, the bottom line is that Beelzebub is a goober pervert!

I couldn't make up my mind which one of these two pictures of these two girls I liked best, so you get them both! Reminds me of the two girls in the current season of "The Walking Dead" for some reason!

They'd like you to believe that this is just a story of a bunch of innocent kids in the country playing around.............................................................but it's not!

This is the way Angel looks just before she strips nude in an effort to break the will of the Reverend!

Once Angel is 100% under the influence of the devil, she gets these weird fuzzy old-man caterpillar eyebrows that don't really make her that attractive any more!

On the right is Wendy Padbury as Cathy Vespers. All you "Dr. Who" fans will no doubt recognize her as Zoe!

I'm not really into movies about dismembering, raping, and murdering children, and that's really what "The Blood On Satan's Claw" is all about!

Satan is a weird olde dude, but Angel seems to like him a whole lot, so I'm sure he's not really that bad if you just had a chance to sit down with him and drink a couple of beers, and find out what he's really all about!

What really got this movie an X rating in the UK was not all the sex or violence, but the graphic removal of the devil's hairball found growing on suspect individuals!

Burn in Hell all you Devil worshiping bitches and witches! I think I just read in the current issue of Screem magazine that "The Blood on Satan's Claw" has finally been released on Blu-Ray DVD, so if that's your cup of tea, you're in for a bit of luck!

GALLERY OF HORROR / American General Pictures - 1967

It's Freakin' Friday with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS started a trend of movies with multiple tales told, either by a narrator or mysterious interacting character. Well, director David L. Hewitt got his chance with this five story flick starring Lon Chaney and John Carradine. Alternate titles are RETURN FROM THE PAST and THE BLOOD SUCKERS, one tagline reads... So shocking it will sliver your liver!

The dapper looking John Carradine narratates the tales as he stands next to a borrowed shot from THE TERROR.

He also stars in the first dime store story, "The Witches Clock." The Farrells have just purchased an old mansion (THE TERROR again) in Salem, Massachusetts, then, an old man named Tristram Halbin (Carradine) shows up at the door. Later, they are warned by a local doctor of the history of witches in the community and about the old clock which they got running again. All the stories have fairly predictible endings.

The second story, "King Vampire," is about an investigation by Scotland Yard to try and solve a mystery concerning a vampire with a slight build, who's killing off villagers.

Of course, the title, "Queen Vampire," would have given the ending away!

Tale number three's called strangely enough, "Monster Raid." Again, scenes from THE TERROR are used quite a bit in this one.

The story's about a man turned zombie when he overdoses on his own experimental drug, he somehow returns to avenge his death by killing his wife and her doctor lover.

If you're going to steal an interesting shot from someone, it might as well be from the great Freddie Francis!

Story four stars Lon in "Spark of Life," about a doctor obsessed with the experiments of Erich von Frankenstein. Him and two of his students try to restore a cadaver of a murderer to life, and succeed. Lon is still able to speak but looks bad. Look at the size of Ron Brogan as the reanimated man, damn!!

Back to THE TERROR, err, story five... It's called "Count Alucard" or "Count Dracula" depending on the credits or John Carradine!

It's pretty much the original DRACULA story just reworked to finish off this 83 minute wonder. Tune in tomorrow to see what old Eegah!! has in store for us!
