MATCHLESS - "Mission Top Secret" (1967)

Welcome to Without a Match Wednesday, and tonight's feature from 1967, "Matchless!"

"Matchless" is your standard fare, run of the mill, routine invisible spy spoof kind of movie!

Patrick O'Neal is Perry 'Matchless' Liston. Although he didn't have a lot of horror or sci-fi among his credits,  Patrick did have the distinction of being in episodes of "Twilight Zone," "The Outer Limits," "Night Gallery," and "Thriller!" The "Twilight Zone" episode was titled "A Short Drink From A Certain Fountain," and "The Outer Limits" episode was "Wolf 359!" Patrick was also in "The Mad Magician," and "Chamber Of Horrors!"

This is the Chinese version of the 'Big Red Go Button!'

Before he dies in a Chinese prison, this old man passes on a ring to Perry Liston that allows the wearer to become invisible for a short amount of time, but the hitch is that it can only be used once every ten hours!

Cellmate Henry (Johnny Cool) Silva as Hank Foster will spend the whole movie trying to chase Perry Liston down!  Henry Silva was in two episodes of "The Outer Limits" himself, "The Mice," and "Tourist Attraction!"

Which way did he go George, which way did he go???

Yes, if I could master the power of invisibility, this is where I would probably go too!!

The music in "Matchless" is pretty cool, and is a combination of the talents of Gino Marinuzzi Jr., Ennio Morricone, and Piero Piccioni!!!

Ira von Fürstenberg has the the female lead role as Arabella! Here's the highlight of this whole story to me! Ira von Fürstenberg's God given name was Virginia Carolina Theresa Pancrazia Galdina Prinzessin zu Fürstenberg, and when she was 15, she married a 31 year old guy named Prinz Alfonso von und zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg, so that her new married name was something like Virginia Carolina Theresa Pancrazia Galdina Prinzessin zu Fürstenberg von und zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg! Gee, I wondered why she changed it!

Invisible men always seem to have a way of finding themselves in peculiar or uncomfortable situations when they become visible again!

Once again, Donald Pleasence shows up, and this time finds himself as the bad guy, one Gregori Andreanu! This film isn't exactly good, but it's not really bad either, but one thing I do have to admit, it is "Matchless!" Need a little fluff in your life, catch it streaming on Netflix! Me? I'm going to go finish watching "Breaking Bad!"

Yeah, I sat through this when i still had Netflix. Becoming enamored with euro action and spy movies, especially when they tray to pass themselves off as American, like the Jerry Cotton flicks.

MDG,
I do enjoy spy and secret agent movies, the cheesier the better, and the Jerry Cotton films are some of my faves as will soon be all too apparent! Thanx,
Eegah!!

Ah yes, back in the days when your leading lady just needed a Bikini and not all the silicone sand to go in it. If you could just talk her into wearing the suit on camera that was all you needed.

Indeed Lacey, sand castles wash away with the next high tide, and then you're left with nothing but emptiness!

How do I get the long version of Matchless? These short ones are only 104 minutes and the one I saw in theaters was about 2 hours and 38 minutes. The cut parts were some of my favorite!

Sure don't, but here's a link to a version that is an hour and 43 minutes. Not all you wanted, but more than you have.

Yes, but the missing part is what made the movie for me, I used to work for the phone company.
