It's Ghoulish Monster Monday with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon! We gots a very Wild 'n' Weird flick with an interesting story, and, it's a redo post from from way back in 2007!! NIGHT OF THE GHOULS, along with BRIDE OF THE MONSTER and PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, was part of Ed's big trilogy plan. It was filmed in 1959 but he could not come up with the money to process the film, so, it sat in a vault until 1983 when our pal Wade Williams took it and produced the final product. It premiered on TV in Finland in 1996.
It would seem very odd indeed, not having Criswell pop up in a coffin to set the stage for yet another nutty Ed Wood feature!..
Eegah!! sent over this soundclip from the embarrassingly funny seance scene, sooooo, you can push the big red 'GO' button there next to the mysterious floating machete, NOW, Ralphie The Tarantula! Here's our audio offering for... NIGHT OF THE GHOULS!
Harvey B. Dunn and his beautiful nagging wife encounter a White Ghost while driving through some hills outside of Sylmar, CA. I had a girlfriend from there. We fondly remember Harvey from his roles as Captain Robbins in BRIDE OF THE MONSTER and as Gramps Morgan in TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE.
It's all in the hands... Looks like Bela's lessons in prestidigitation paid off!
Lobo is brought back from BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, this time he's badly scarred and seems to be experimenting with lipstick! I guess whatever makes you feel better about yourself. Tor also played a different Lobo in THE UNEARTHLY!.. "Time for go to bed!"
Okay, who wants to say grace?.. Kenne Duncan plays Dr. Acula, a fraudulant mystic who's out for one thing, bilking money out of superstitious elderly victims. Forry Ackerman played host Dr. Acula in our little horror comedy thriller, THE CREEP! The working title for the movie was DR. ACULA.
Here's all the weird crap going on in the soundclip!
The last still shows the Spirit Guide, here's what he trying to say... "Mongo, mongo! I am your spirit guide. Mongo! Mongo, mongo! From the everlasting pit of darkness. Dr. Acula calls and I obey! Mongo, mongo, mongo! I will lead you into the dark world beyond! Mongo, mongo, mongo! Mongo, mongo!" If you can notice at the top of his Devo helmet, there's a cool little skull!
Part of Dr. Acula's tricks is to have a handsome accomplice court the grieving widow and then use a look alike to serve as her dead husband. Of course, dead hubby tells her to give Dr. Acula all the money he wants!
What do you know?! There's Anthony (THE SKYDIVERS) Cardoza as Acula's helper, Tony!
Harry (KILLERS FROM SPACE) Thomas did Tor's makeup job, we used to see publicity stills of this Lobo in early issues of FM.
Patrolman Kelton is brought in for some cheap laffs, and, the coppers bring down the rampaging Lobo with a shower of bullets!
