CHAMBER OF HORRORS - William Lava - "One Hand Is Better Than Two" (1966)

"Chamber of Horrors" was a big studio Warner Brothers production, so they had enough money to do some extra stuff!

Obviously, some marketing genius came up with the concept of having a 'warning' system, hence you have the "Horror Horn" and the "Fear Flasher" which were both used to give the viewer a chance to turn away, or in other words, completely remove any chance of being scary or suspenseful! Pretty stupid, really, but unique!!! Then, on top of that, the scenes you are warned about, are not really that scary as to warrant such attention!! Oh, well, it's still a fun movie to watch!!!

Essentially, "Chamber Of Horrors" is a battle of wits between House Of Wax owners, and amateur detectives Anthony Draco and Harold Blout, with the assistance of their little buddy Señor Pepe De Reyes and the devious killer Jason Cravatte, who was also known as Jason Caroll! Draco was portrayed by Cesare Danova, Wilfrid Hyde-White was Harold, and Tun Tun played Señor Pepe!

Patrick O'Neal turns in a killer performance as the two Jasons! At the end of the movie there is written credits for 'The Cast' and Patrick's name is not even on the list!!! That's how evil he is!!

These are some of the attachments that Jason is able to use with what used to be his hand!!

The most happening place in town, "Delano's!!!"

It's a twisted little tale with some bizarre features that they don't warn you about, like, out of nowhere, in what is basically a cameo role, you have an uncredited Tony Curtis playing cards in a Cathouse as Mr. Julian for a couple of minutes!!

M.A.S.H.'s Trapper John, Wayne Rogers has an unusual role as a heroic but dumb cop!!

This is a pretty funny scene where Jason pretends he's just another wax head on the shelf and is hiding from Draco in the big chase scene!!!

The lovely Laura Devon adds a lot of class as Marie Champlain, the woman stuck in the middle!! Laura worked mostly in TV, having only made 5 films, and retired shortly after this movie was made!!

In charge of the music was a man we've written about before, because he has well over 300 credits including a slew of cartoons and TV shows! You name it, William has done it, "Daffy Duck," "Bugs Bunny," "Pink Panther," "F-Troop," "Disneyland," "Mickey Mouse Club," "Cheyenne," just to name a few, and in the 40's he was composer for "The Mummy's Curse," "House Of Dracula," "The She-Wolf Of London" and so much more! What an incredible career!!! This one's for Bill!!!

LASERBLAST - Richard Band & Joel Goldsmith - "Laser Blast" (1978)

"Laserblast" was the first movie ever scored by Joel Goldsmith, and it was Richard Band's second outing! These two guys both went on to have astonishing careers, and are still both working today! Richard Band was responsible for the way you felt when you saw "TerrorVision", "Troll", "Re-Animator" and "Ghoulies" just to name a few, and Joel Goldsmith not only has "Kull the Conqueror" and "Vampirella" among his numerous achievements, he also has 213 episodes of "Stargate SG-1" under his belt to go along with the 99 episodes of the "Stargate: Atlantis" TV show he did the music for!

Kim Milford as Larry Duncan, was an extremely talented person, who not only was the lead singer for The Jeff Beck group for a short while, but also was cast in the original productions of both "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show!" Kim obviously had too much talent for one person, and checked out with a bad heart at only 37 years of age!

This was Eddie Deezen as Froggy's first acting gig! Eddie has gone on to having quite the respectable career, and does a lot of cool voices in cartoons like "Kim Possible" and "Dexter's Laboratory!"

Animator Randy Cook went on to be an animation guy on all the "Lord Of The Rings" movies! Not too shabby!!

Now, does any of that make "Laserblast" a good movie?? Hell, No!!! You've got to be kidding, this is without a doubt, one of the worst films I have ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on! I could actually feel the life being sucked out of my body as I watched it, but it sure was a neat starting off spot for a lot of cool people!!

DIABOLIK - Ennio Morricone - "Let's Go Deep Deep Down" (1968)

John Phillip Law is "Diabolik", or, as it was released in America,"Danger: Diabolik," and what a diabolical character he can be!!

Coming off like kind of a cross between a 1968 Robin Hood and Batman, with a touch of Jesse James and Al Capone, except the only people he's watching out for are himself and his beautiful girlfriend Eva, who is portrayed by Marisa Mell.

Instead of stealing 10 million dollars and giving it to the poor, Diabolik scatters it all over his fortress of solitude and Eva and him make love in it!! Speaking of fortress of solitude, what a great pad this cat has got, and unlike a Superman or Batman, he's not dumb enough to go there alone!

Diabolik's got a great sense of humour, but sometimes also murders innocent people like guards, if he needs to, so he's really not that nice of a guy, but in this scene, he and Eva pose as reporters, as special guest star Terry Thomas as the Minister Of Finance, delivers a speech. Diabolik uses his 'exhilirating' gas to make the whole room, including the stoic minister and the cops start cracking up!!

Diabolik is so bad, and so elusive, the police have to use gangsters to try and find him!! Enter and exit Adolfo Celi as crime boss Ralph Valmont! Ralph has quite a sense of style and flare in his choice of clothes, or maybe he was colourblind, but most likely, he only dresses like that because this is a Mario Bava film!!

The action is smokin' at Valmont's club!! The music throughout this movie is by the prolific Maestro Ennio Morricone, who everybody knows about because of the "Good, Bad, and The Ugly" movies, and who we've written about here before, for his work on "Nightmare Castle! The female vocalist singing the theme was some gal named Christy!!

Some guys will do anything to get their girlfrend those jewels she wants so bad!!

Diabolik does go on a rampage during one part of the film, blowing up all the tax offices in whatever imaginary country they are supposed to be in, and No, we don't condone this type of behaviour, and this is only a movie, but it sure makes for quite a strong statement by Director Mario Bava 41 years ago that still reverberates around the globe to this very day! This was the one part where he was helping somebody besides himself, because all the tax records were destroyed!! It wouldn't work today because of computer technology!

For a real treat, head on over to YouTube and listen and watch probably the most talented man on the planet today, Mike Patton, do his knock you down and out amazing version of "Deep Deep Down!!" And after you do that stay there and watch the whole concert. One of the most interesting sets I've heard in ages!! Goosebump city!!! You will not be disappointed!!!! Go Mike!!!

Big Thanx to A Fistful Of Soundtracks blog for the Mike Patton lead!!!
