So, this is my last Mummy flick I have in my collection, Eegah!! will have to take Mummy Fever to its conclusion, I'm all Mummied Out... In today's tale, Santo is enlisted for an expedition to the lost tomb of Nonoc, an Aztec warrior. It's a cursed tomb and the dead warrior had been entombed and cursed for loving a maiden designated for the gods' use. Arriving at the tomb, they find a scroll which explains that, by entering, they are now officially cursed. Nobody attaches much importance to the announcement, which is a mistake they make. Because shortly thereafter, the party is being stalked and killed off by the avenging mummy, or so it seems.
Here's the gang in the jungle, on their expedition in search of the lost tomb of Nonoc. Looks like everyone's in a good mood so far, we'll see how long that lasts!
After searching the tomb, they locate the mummified body of Nonoc. They take the dead warrior back to their camp for further inspection.
In a flashback, we see Nonoc with his lover, which is a forbidden sin because of their social status. Before Nonoc is captured, the maiden is stabbed to death!
Then, members of the expedition start to get knocked off, with an arrow in the chest...
Time for a laff... One of the guys is crying from the terror, so, he wipes the tears from his eyes using the other guy's beard!
One of Santo's pals does not believe that the Mummy is coming back to life to kill the people in the expedition, so, he takes a knife and stabs the mummy a number of times to prove his point... The damn thing is freakin' DEAD!!
So, if the mummy's dead, why does this guy keep showing up with his bow and quiver of arrows?!.. Something's not quite adding up here.
Besides all that, Santo has to defend himself from brutes like this guy with a big knife!
Oh, and by the way, Santo has a love interest in this one, and Susana is her name...
But, the avenging mummy is still on the prowl, he adds another kill to his list of victims...
By this time, Santo knows that the supposed mummy is actually not, he's just someone trying to steal all the priceless scrolls from the gang. So, time for a big old fight.
After a struggle, the mummy tries to impale Santo with a spear, but, our mighty hero turns the point into the mummy and viola, the thing is dead!
And wouldn't you know it, the mummy is none other than someone pretending to be on Santo's side the whole time!
We'll end our tale with Santo kicking more ass in the ring, bringing things to a happy ending. I'm surprised that the kid isn't looking a little more to his right... We're back on Wednesday with even more craziness, here, at The Dungeon!!..
~ R. I. P. SID HAIG ~
The KID in the last panel (and thruout the picture) is Santo's real-life son, Jorge. He took up the legacy and carved a respectable career as EL HIJO DEL SANTO. He was actually a better wrestler than his father, altho not as great a personality. He's now in his mid-50s. His son is now starting up as SANTO JR. It keeps on going...as it should.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome EG - great info that we always appreciate including along with the review, I'll have to check out Hijo - thanks pal
ReplyDeleteI don't know that many of these films very well, so I usually can't go around recommending particular ones, but to me one good one is "Leyendas macabras de la Colonia," a time travel one where the wrestlers and their girlfriends end up in colonial Mexico (!). It's been accused of having far too little action, but it's nice. And it has Lorena Velasquez as a femme fatale character, which is always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteHey, good news Grant, I have "Leyendas macabras de la Colonia" in my collection and will post it on Monday, so, stay tuned for that one! - thanks for the tip pal...
ReplyDeleteThank you.
