So, welcome everbloody, to Saturday Flicktime here at the Dungeon wif' Tabonga and crew... This is a reprise of an older post from a few years back!
"ATTACKED... by a creature from hell!" screams the tagline for this truly classic Corman production released December, 1955!!
Just check out this actor lineup... Paul (BEAST WITH A MILLION EYES/NOT OF THIS EARTH) Birch, Richard (CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN/BLACK SCORPION) Denning, Lori (REVENGE OF THE CREATURE/HOT ROD GIRL) Nelson, Mike (SWAMP WOMEN/VOODOO WOMAN) Connors, Paul (THE SHE-CREATURE/ATOMIC SUBMARINE) Dubov, Jonathan (MONSTER FROM THE OCEAN FLOOR/IT CONQUERED THE WORLD) Haze, Raymond (DIG THAT URANIUM/INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN) Hatton and Paul (THE UNDEAD/GHOST OF DRAGSTRIP HOLLOW) Blaisdell as another one of his cool, classic monster creations!
...WHEW!!!
Music is by genius and Dungeon favorite, Ronald Stein, who we have featured here many, many times before... He like, king of the monster movie music around here!
So, here is today's 'earrific' earpiece coming to nearest earbank in you brain!! Give Eegah!! credit for keeping 'em coming! Tabonga pet tarantula, Ralphie, now raising up claw to be pushing big old red 'GO' button and starting ball rolling toward the... DAY THE WORLD ENDED!!
Sorry, stills not that great, from old EP VHS tape.
Day after day the world ended, tough guy Tony and gurlfriend Ruby show up at Maddison ranch, unannounced even!
Tony learn the hard way to watch it, if acting like a jerk!
They lucky because they live in high valley, above radiation...
Look like Paul gots a touch o' the grip!
The gratuitous gurlies pic!
Here are three drawings by Paul Blaisdell of the mutations produced after some of our atomic tests that Louise's dad is showing Hank. Paul was a sci-fi pulp illustrator in the late forties, early fifties, he had a unique style!
Just a little unsettling!
Goodnight, sweet Seymour!
Adele Jergens, as Ruby, does her night club act for everbloody to gander at.
Louise get hypnotized by mutant so they can get good shot for poster art!
Mutant not like the water!
Hank shoot the mutant with pop gun, but, good old mister rain is who kill it!
This is best part of flick! Tony already kill gurlfriend, now he ready to kill Hank and make Louise all his own...
But, he miscalculate and Louise' dad pull out hidden gun and shoot Tony, first in back, then in chest when he turn around to see wha' hoppin! Tony was a total worm, an' totally get what he diserve! Very satisfying!!
This is only the beginning... Only the beginning, you hear me?!
Somebody once commented only Corman could pull off the end of the world using a small ranch house, some smoke pots, body glitter, 1 rubber suit and 6 actors! (It sure is a lot better than Arch Obler's FIVE or the big budget snooze-fest THE WORLD, THE FLESH, AND THE DEVIL.)
ReplyDeleteIt WAS a lot better than Arch Obler's FIVE. As good as he was on the radio, I was surprised at how bad he was on film.
ReplyDeleteAs for WORLD. THE FLESH, & the Devil, That was a good film.
Remember, they re-made this movie 10 years later in color for the Drive-In trade.
Actually, the remake -- IN THE YEAR 2889 -- was for TV, not drive-ins. Quite a story behind that: Samuel Z. Arkoff wanted to sell off TV rights to the AIP library but wanted to keep the lucrative Poe pics in his pocket, so he drafted a contract with Filmways that gave them rights to x number of b+w films and y number of color films BUT didn't specify any films by title! He then contacted Texas auteur/schlock-meister Larry Buchanan to knock of six re-makes (actually 5 re-makes and one unfilmed script) of theatrically released b+w films in 16mm color and swapped those out for the Poe pix!
ReplyDeleteFilmways was not pleased but there was nothing they could do about it.
The monsters in IN THE YEAR 2888 wer cooler.
