LOGAN'S RUN / Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer - 1976

Here's one me and the ex saw way back in 1976 when it came out... For a fifties rubber monster freak, this thing was way too glitzy for my taste, a symphony in C-.

The complicated story goes... It's the year 2274 AD, there's little or no work for humans to perform, and, inhabitants are free to pursue all of the pleasures of life. However, your life is limited and when you reach the age 30, your life is terminated in a quasi-religious ceremony known as Carousel (sounds fun!). Some people, known as runners, try to escape their fate and it's the job of a Sandmen to track them down and kill them!

Here's a little more info to help you get up to speed in case you haven't seen this thing, saving my brain from trying to 'esplain it for you!

This is the domed futuristic city in all its glory, the citizens are all spoiled brats with nothing else to do but screw off for thirty years.

The Carousel ceremony starts with these over the hill weirdos ready to fly and die! "How!.. We in market for mucho wampum, you gots?..." Come on, man... WTF! This production is considered a great bad movie!

Fly!.. FLY, my little goofballs!.. Fly as though your worthless little lives depended on it!!

Wow, they even got M. C. Escher to designed this mall scene!

Logan meets Jessica and they hit it off after a few awkward moments. Love the bottom scene, what a Futuristic Kitsch Rococo look!

Then, Logan and Jessica go to the Laser Palace to get a little surgery. They're greeted by Farrah Fawcett as Holly, miss that girl. And, things don't go very well for Logan...

Logan and Jessica have left the city, they are looking for the place known as 'Sanctuary.' On the way, they meet up with this silly looking ice robot that wants to...

Freeze their asses and put them with these other fine examples of frozen humans!!

Further along the way, they come across the Lincoln Memorial after many years of neglect.

Finally, they meet the man with all the knowledge, Peter Ustinov as the Old Man! He has the answers to all their questions!

Marvel tried to capitalize on the whole thing, but, they gave Logan a super hero style outfit... Tune in Wednesday when we're back, here, at The Dungeon!!

  1. One of my favourite films and not just because it has two of my favourite actors (Michael York and the always scrumptious Jenny Agutter).

    Paul from Oz

  2. "Spoiled brats with nothing else to do but screw off for thirty years"? Sounds like an Ivy League campus in 2016.

When it aired on CBS, the ads played up Farrah Fawcett (then Farrah Fawcett-Majors), although she only appears in it briefly. Either her part was intended as a celebrity cameo, or, more likely, it was made shortly before she became a star. There was also a short-lived TV series. IIRC, Heather Menzies played Jenny Agutter's character.

    And I miss Farrah, too.

  3. As male teenager seeing this in the theater back in the 70's Jenny Agutter was what I remembered the most.
