It's Friday Fright with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. We gots a redo post from 2008 of this very decent little British produced flick, the story's about underwater atomic tests that cause changes in the ocean's ecosystem, resulting in blobs of radiation and the rebirth of a huge dormant creature.
Eegah!! sent over a soundclip from this movie for our enjoyment, sooooo, you can push the big red 'GO' button there next to the atomic fish tank, NOW, Rufus The Gnat! Here's our audio offering for... THE GIANT BEHEMOTH!
No telling how many fifties and sixties horror and sci-fi flicks used atomic testing as the real culprit in the story, I won't attempt to even start a list of them. Hell, we were still doing atomic underground testing in US deserts during the Reagan years!
Here's Gene Evans as American research scientist, Steve Karnes. Gene can be seen in another film directed by Eugene Lourie, SHOCK CORRIDOR, playing a childish egghead in a mental hospital who likes to hide under chairs and do other weird stuff.
This old salt has a deadly run in with the radio active Behemoth, then, a radio active blob washes onto the shore and causes radiation burns on that idiot's hand when he 'accidently' touches it, was ein dummkoph!!
The USDA inspects this glowing flounder, I see no problem here.
Now, that's what I call a footprint!
The Behemoth makes its way into london and burns the fleeing citizens with radiation!
The creature toasts these Army dudes like crispy critters!
Some nice looking shots of the Behemoth, notice the rope lines on the model car as it's released from the monster's mouth!
When this submarine pilot pushes that lever down, an atomic device will completely destroy the Behemoth, once and for all!..
I watched this just last week.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite bit was the throwaway "oh, it's electric, like an eel" explanation for why the paleosaurus blasted radiation.
Terrible movie.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Is there such a thing as a small behemoth? Isn't the title a tautology?
Douglas - yes..
ReplyDeleteThis is cool!
ReplyDeleteThalia! What a cool name! The only other time I've ever seen that name was Tuesday Weld as Thalia Menninger, Dobie Gillis's girlfriend!
