GONKS GO BEAT - The Graham Bond Organization - "Harmonica & Big Band" (1965)

It's hard to just let a Saturday night slip away, so real quick, we've already written "Gonks Go Beat" off, but you gotta admit that this one song by The Graham Bond Organization with the freakin' amazing Dick Heckstall-Smith on sax, pre-Mahavishnu Orchestra Jazz fusion guitar giant John McLaughlin in there somewhere, and a pre-Cream Jack Bruce on Bass and Harmonica, and Ginger Baker on drums called "Harmonica and Big Band" is a pretty dang cool example of 60's UK blues and actually justifies this picture's existence!!

Ginger's not really digging the professor telling him that he's off beat!!!

  2. I know this is an old post, but this is just too great. I first saw this maybe 10 years ago, but every time I see it again I am reminded of how great this is. Especially for fans of McLaughlin and Bond who have very little footage from this period. And there is never a bad time to see Jack and Ginger.

So... I am 90% sure that is McLaughlin in the Pink Pants behind Bruce. It makes since since he did not play guitar on this song and I never saw a guitarist in the video. I will have to listen again to see if there is no guitar or if a session player (most likely Jimmy Page who is listed in the credits as contributing to the soundtrack, but not listed on the specific songs; i think)
Does anyone know for sure. That guy def has McLaughlin's chin.

  3. Hey Cel, it's never too late to comment. It ain't like this movie wasn't 55 years ago already! And I have to say that I agree with you. If IMDB got it right, it has to be John McLaughlin since he was the guitar player in the band in 1965, and IMDB has him listed although uncredited as the guitar player in the band in the full cast section.
