EEGAH!!! - Arch Hall - "Valerie" (1962)

Not something weird, freaky, new or special for you on this final amazing "All Saint's Night 2008" but instead we're going to dig into the roots of what we're doing here!!!
This is the last piece of music I have for you from "Eegah!" and I was saving it for a special night, so here ya'll go!! It ain't even worth arguing about, cause without a doubt, it's the best Pop song of all time, written and performed by the genius Arch Hall, from the film only second to "Citizen Kane" and "Gone With The Wind" in most intelligent thinker's books, my freakin' namesake, "EEGAH!!!"

This simply amazing song is titled "Valerie" and it goes something like this:

"If I had, a thousand paintings, in a marble, gallery,
Every, single picture, would be of Valerie,"

Okay, now, get ready for the really good stuff!!!

"Vitamins are good they say, and so's a calorie,
But I'd feel like a tiger on one kiss from Valerie,"

Yes, Arch really did rhyme Valerie and calorie!!!! Isn't that the best ever!??? C'mon!!!!

"I couldn't stand tomorrow, and they can have today,
If some one took my Valerie a half a mile away!"

"If I had, a billion dollars, and a banker's, salary,
I'd spend it, all on flowers, to give to, Valerie!!!"

Oh, baby!!!!! And what's even better than those background singers singing "Salary"?? There's nobody named "Valerie" in the movie!!!! This song comes complete with Ooobie-Doo Ooh-oohs and whistling from soma-place you're not opt to venture to on purpose! Sing it Arch!!!

As I have been told numerous times in the past, "Eegah!!!" cleans up pretty damn good!!!

So now it's time to track down that ghoul you love, write him or her a song rhyming his or her name to the most absurd things in the world and you're 'Good Golly Miss Molly' guaranteed to be together a real gone time! Peace and Aarrrgghhhh!!!!!

Forrest J. Ackerman was the man who inspired us to love and write about Monster Movies, and it was the Reverend Tom Frost who inspired us to do this blog, so on this hallowed 2008 night of all nights, lift those glasses high to them and all the other greats we've toasted and roasted here!! Thanx!!!

EL MONSTRUO DE LOS VOLCANES (The Monster Of The Volcano) - Sergio Guerrero - "Homenaje A El Gordo" (1963)

Really, I'm not kidding this time, Happy Halloween y Feliz Día de Todos los Santos!!!! AAiieeeaahhhhiieee!!!!

Not to be confused with the 1955 Japanese release "Gojira No Gyakushû" (The Volcano Monster), a Godzilla film, Oh, No, tonight's feature is the 1963 Mexican film "El Monstruo De Los Volcanes," or as we affectionately know it, "The Monster Of The Volcano" or as it is sometimes referred to, "The Big White Fuzzy Stupid-Looking Thing That Looks Like It Escaped From Sesame Street!!!"

This movie has practically everything you could want from a movie! It's got girls!!

It's got action!!

And even more action!!!

And it's got "El Gordo Blanco" also known to his amigos as "Fatso!"

"Hey baby, how about a hug???"

They actually pushed 'El Gordo de los Volcanes' off a cliff at the end, I didn't really get it!!!!

With Original Music by Sergio Guerrero, who not only did a lot of music for Mexican masked wrassler lucha libre and horror flicks, but also for some of those all-time classic titles like "Pancho Tequila", "The Princess Hippie" and "Rebels A Go-Go!" Born in 1921, Maestro Sergio just passed away in the beginning of this year, but at least we have his music to remember him by!!

THE GIANT CLAW / Columbia - 1957 / Music by Mischa Bakaleinikoff

Tonight we have some classic 'schlock.' When the big-wigs at Columbia saw the final cut, they basically had a big heart attack!! Part of the movie had been farmed out to a Mexican company for creation of the space vulture and the filming of it's parts including the models. Columbia execs were expecting something closer to FORBIDDEN PLANET! Instead, what they got was a pretty damn good Mexican monster flick!

Seriously, you can't get a title card better than that!! The awesome Mischa Bakaleinikoff is our music conductor for this title. Mischa has 148 composing and... get this!.. 402 credits from the music department! WOW!!.. Now, give a listen to tonight's classic offering... Big Bird and Small Talk!!

SOUNDCLIP NOT AVAILABLE

There are 7 uncredited composers that contributed to this project including Max Steiner and Marlin Skiles!

Jeff Morrow plays Mitch MacAfee, the pilot who first saw the bird. He says "Its as big as a battleship!" even though it didn't show up on radar! Then, we also have the beautiful Mara Corday playing Sally Caldwell. Both actors have already been featured here at The Dungeon! The second still shows Mitch's weird theory about a spiral pattern the bird is flying, because that the placement of the X'es correspond to where the thing had been sighted!.. Looks like a straight line to me! Did they have LSD in 1957?!

Here's Mitch and Sally as they mix love with space monsters at his bachelor pad!

Nice series of stills, and, it happens to more than just this guy!

Get real, how in the hell's that thing gonna help??

I love these posed shots as people at the beach watch the space bird pass overhead!

A good 'n' ugly shot of the thing as it... err... she works on a nest!

Great stuff here as the teens race along the highway, they have a salt shaker so they can put salt on the tail of the big bad bird if it comes around!.. What a setup!!

I'd bet that these three shots show the reason for some of the angst the producers felt as they sat there watching this turkey! Top pic shows the hot rod on a string before a firecracker blows it up! The second still shows the bird flying away holding a string of train cars!!! Those would be hot dogs in any cartoon!

Mitch finally gets his infernal 'anti-matter' demolisher working, so, they mount it in the rear end of a WW II bomber! Get this, the Generals take over the piloting job! Those were real men back then! And, no wonder, that's Robert Shayne and Morris Ankrum there!
