For all our friends from "Like Dreamsville," here is another, and the final installment of "The Mask," a chilling 3D psycho-delic nightmare from the North!! We've written about it before, you can find it in the archive, but I will tell you this........
Trust me on this one, this film would have scared the frozen snot out of you back in 1961, and it's still eerie as hell to this day! I get the heebie-jeebies just writing about it!! The combined musical composition skills of Louis Applebaum and the wacky electronic genius of Myron Schaeffer makes for a pretty heady stew. Be very careful listening to this stuff, we will not be responsible!!!
Sweet Dreams!!!!
WOW!.. Tonight's posting is amazing - again, Eegah, we salute you!!
ReplyDeleteE & T:
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite movies. Gotta say thanks for the tunes, but also for the lobby card: It's my desktop background now!
Awesome!
That is music to our ears!!!
ReplyDeleteWowsa, great post!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite movies.
I've still got an ancient VHS copy of this from the early 80s, one that annoyingly had some magician interrupting the film halfway, telling you how to put on your 3D glasses, and how it works and stuff...*duh*
Oh, and I always thought the soundtrack rocked!
Looking forward to hearing these mp3s, for sure.
Back in the day when I used to mess around with bands, me and a couple of buddies did a track with the taped soundtrack playing in the background.
It worked really well, made us sound like Hawkwind!
Haha
Great blog, by the way.
I'm finding more and more cool posts of yours all the time here.
Many many thanks.
This is amazing. It reminded me so much of Sun Ra ca. "Atlantic" and "The Magic City" I grabbed his bio off the shelf:
ReplyDelete"He followed the rise of science fiction as a child, reading early comic books and seeing the movie serials of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon....Even in later years he continued to take a serious, almost professional interest in sci-fi films..."
What's more, while living in NYC in 1961 "[s]ome days [Sun Ra] went to the movie theaters on 42nd Street where second-run and B-films were shown continuously for twenty-four hours. He'd sit through three or four films at a clip, often falling asleep, doggedly staying on until the part he had missed showed again..."
MAX!!! Nice kick, man! Sun-Ra never got a chance to do the soundtrack for a sci-fi movie, so in 1974, he made his own, and I didn't even know about it til right now! Damn, I love the internet! It ain't public domain, but in the future we will do a post for Sun-Ra's 1974 flick, what else, "Space Is The Place!" And we only got Max to thank for it!!
ReplyDelete"Space is the Place" is wonderful -- poorly acted, but the music and costumes are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThere's a soundtrack of most of the music on Evidence Records. But there's some wild music from a nightclub scene at the beginning of the movie that I'd love to have a clip of.
Yo, Max,
ReplyDeleteLet's just see if we can get that spaceship to fly!!
