LOONEY TUNES / "Porky's Road Race" - 1937

Here's one that I saw many times back in the fifties on TV, a little Frank Tashlin gem written by Tedd Pierce and stars good old Porky Pig in his early days...

Boy, what a deal with the prize money! Movie stars are out in force here and they include popular actors like Charlie Chaplin, W. C. Fields, Boris Karloff and others. The voice talent are Elvia Allman, Dave Barry, Mel Blanc, Billy Bletcher, Joe Dougherty and Tedd Pierce.

Porky is soooo proud of his midget racer, even with it's two little puny cylinders!

W. C. Fields has already had a run in with Charlie Chaplin and sees a damsel in distress. It's Edna May Oliver (the original Miss Jane Hathaway), and her car isn't running very good at all just before the big race.

Then we see Borax Karoff hard at work on his sleek black number 13, with its 36 cylinder engine. He really enjoys his oil!

And, the race is on!!!

It's not long before Borax pulls out tacks and torpedo bombs to get rid of the competition.

Edna May is being passed by the other racers so quickly, that...

Her car is eventually stripped of its parts and she's now cruising on a frame and wheels!

It seems impossible, but Porky's little racer overtakes Borax's mighty speedster!

While going through a tunnel though, Porky ends up in number 13 and Borax ends up in Porky's little racer. Borax gets to the draw bridge first and pulls the lever that raises the bridge.

Porky hits the ramp and flies through the air, and beats Borax by a nose at the finish line!

After Borax crashes, the ambulance comes and they take Porky's damaged racer away, leaving our villain just laying there!!

So, just before the judges put the winner's crown on Porky's head...

Edna May comes flying through the coronation crowd and the crown gets put in its proper place!! You go girl!.. Check in tomorrow with Eegah!!, here at The Dungeon!

DAWN OF THE DEAD - "When There's No More Room In Hell" (1978)

Tonight's Wednesday Weirdness is George Romero's 1978 gore-fest "Dawn Of The Dead," or as it is also known "Zombie," or "Zombies."
This German poster is wacky!

In "Dawn Of The Dead," the apocalypse has already begun, and four people escape in a helicopter. They find an abandoned but zombie-filled shopping mall, and hang out, and on, as long as they can!

The four main characters are......................

.......................Ken (The Wanderers) Foree as a guy named Peter.
I love this shot of Ken in front of the carpet samples.

Scott H. (They Said I Should Have Went With The Lobster But Avocado Toast Is Better) Reiniger is Roger!

Documentary filmmaker Gaylen (Creepshow) Ross is Francine!

And David (The Liberation Of Cherry Jankowski) Emge is Stephen!

Zombies come in all shapes & sizes, especially when they are all friends and family of crew members!

The only difference between these mannequins and the zombies, is the mannequins can't move around.

The brilliant thing about holing up in this mall is they have plenty of access to healthy food, appliances, clothes, and lots of guns!
The mall used in the movie was the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, Pennsylvania!

Unfortunately for Stephen, on top of all his other problems, Francine is not even interested in sex because she is pregnant!

Hey, at least they got a record collection out of the deal, and this is as good a place as any to tell you that the soundtrack is by Goblin, who did the music for many a Dario Argento film, but for some reason, in this movie, they are credited as The Goblins. Trust me, I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to make sense!

They got all the zombies locked out of the mall, and they have everything they need, and as screwed up as it is, life ain't too bad for the gang until this large group of maniacal bikers shows up, and decides to crash the party!!

First the bikers have to get past all the zombies outside, and then when they get the doors open, all the zombies file back into the mall like good little boys and girls, but some of them get blown up in the process!

It doesn't take long for the bikers to dispose of most of the zombies.

Did I forget to tell you this was actually a comedy?
A very gory comedy, but a comedy nonetheless!

And if the Three Stooges style pie in the face didn't convince you, how about the biker in a sombrero who decides to check his blood pressure in the middle of all this carnage!

By George, it really does look like they had a lot of fun making this film!

I will admit, "Dawn Of The Dead" does have this kind of effect on the viewer too, but just remember, it's just all one big joke, isn't it?

ATOM MAN vs. SUPERMAN / Chapter 13 - "Atom Man's Flying Saucers" - 1950

Here's the Columbia 15 Chapter serial of ATOM MAN vs. SUPERMAN from 1950. The story involves Lex Luthor and his teleportation device, he also assumes the new identity of Atom Man in his plan to take over things.

It stars Kirk (WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, BEGINNING OF THE END) Alyn, Noel (INVASION, U.S.A.) Neill, Lyle (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE) Talbot, Tommy (Butch in OUR GANG) Bond and Pierre (IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE) Watkin.

Yeah, and SUPERMAN even had his own radio program, ah, the good old days.

So, here we go, chapter 13 here we come!.. Whoa! Looks like the Atom Man even has, some... Flying.. Saucers??!.. Hey Madge! C'mere and check this out!

These guys work for Lex Luthor aka Atom Man. They have taken their truck van with another sinister weapon of Luthor's inside to the Daily Planet building (which looks like a dump compared to the one in ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN) and turns on the beam.

It makes all the electrical items in the offices turn into weapons!! Freakin' genius!! Lois and Jimmy have fun trying to figure what's going on!

For me, this is the perfect changing place for the man of steel at the office!

Perry, Supe, Lois and Jimmy react to the disruption. Superman wants to go to a certain office and get the goods on the criminals.

Luthor has the Daily Planet bugged and clears out with all the important papers before Superman gets there.

He then uses a special coin to teleport him and his pal back to his headquarters.

And they have a big laugh as they watch on their televiewer, Superman simply cannot find any damning evidence in the office.

You will find the most impressive explosions of cars and trucks in the movies! This was a truck baited to blow up Lois and Jimmy but is thwarted by Superman. A few seconds after the explosion, one of the tires hits the ground and rolls around a bit, Holy Cow, flying fenders too!!

All the scenes, except for close ups, of Superman flying are cartoons, which makes him look more impressive, but are obviously, drawings.

The old televiewer is working overtime, Clark and Lois are up in a plane searching for clues to the whereabouts of Atom Man's hideout. What a perfect time to use a flying saucer bomb to get rid of two problems, namely, those nosey reporters.

The flying saucer is also a cartoon, here's a good look at it.

Lois is starting to realize that something's coming straight at them!

And it hits their plane square, and there's a giant explosion!.......

Just do what the card says and they're won't be any problems!
