A GANDER AT MOTHER GOOSE - Fred (Tex) Avery (1940)

A Gander is a male goose or it also means to look or glance at something! "A Gander At Mother Goose" is a 1940 Tex Avery cartoon made as Fred Avery! Are you starting to get the picture?

There are only two types of people in the world, those who get it, and those who don't! People that get it like parody, farce, and double entendre! Those who don't get it are angry because they don't understand what's so damn funny! That's why the Technical Advisor on this cartoon is Mother Goose!

Mother Goose nursery rhymes are just as sordid and violent as the Brother's Grimm tales, so why not make a TV series like "Grimm" based on nursery rhymes instead? Now maybe this has already been done, and I'm just too lazy to research it, but if it hasn't, then I think it's a pretty good idea. and when it happens, I want to get paid for it!

It's all so simple... Mary, Mary has a garden that's creepy contrary! Doesn't take much imagination to see where that episode is going!

The case of Humpty Dumpty! He falls down and is okay, but only the shell on his ass gets broken! For being 1940, there's a lot of butt humor in this cartoon!

There's depraved sex maniac Jack who doesn't want to fetch water any more, but just wants to make out with Jill all day instead!

This Muffet gal is a lot scarier than the spider who sat down beside her!
These episodes would write themselves!

This wolf has a bad case of Hilarious-Histerine-Halotosis!
Just like "GRIMM," set the location as Portland to make it more realistic!

Jack Be Nimble supplies more ass humor, and there was also another scene where an eagle got shot with an arrow in the butt!

The old lady who lives in the shoe and has so many children she doesn't know what to do is also an episode that would write itself!

I didn't really get a chance to send out any Christmas cards this year, so to all ya'll,.......
a good night!

The 1940's HORROR And SCI-FI MOVIES Of JOHN CARRADINE

Today we check out the horror and sci-fi movies of John Carradine in the forties. Prior to that, John had smaller parts in THE INVISIBLE MAN, THE BLACK CAT, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. All we can say here at The Dungeon is, we love John to pieces with his amazing 351 acting credits and all...

First up is the horror comedy, WHISPERING GHOSTS, from 1942, starring good old Milton Berle! The story's about an actor who plays a detective on a radio show and his sidekick try to solve a murder that had been committed a few years earlier.

In 1943, John stars in CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN along with Acquanetta in a story about a mad scientist doing experimentation in glandular research (shades of THE UNEARTHLY) and becomes obsessed with transforming a female gorilla into a human!..

Also in 1943, John is back in REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES, this time, a man and his hired detective arrive at an old mansion in the middle of a Louisiana swamp to meet his brother-in-law, John as Dr. Max von Altermann, a Nazi who has been creating zombies for the armies of the Third Reich!

Then, in 1944, John stars in a pile of movies, the first being VOODOO MAN, which also stars Bela Lugosi. Dr. Richard Marlowe (Bela) uses a combination of voodoo rites and hypnotic suggestion, attempting to revive his long-dead wife by transferring the life essences of several young girls he has kidnapped and imprisoned in his Dungeon!!

Jon (MONSTER FROM THE SURF) Hall heads up the cast in THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE from 1944. In this story, an eccentric scientist helps a fugitive become invisible, unwittingly giving him the power to exact revenge on his former friends!

Again in 1944, John stars along with Lon Chaney, Barton MacLane and George Zucco in THE MUMMY'S GHOST. In this one, an Egyptian priest travels to America in search of the bodies of an Egyptian princess and her living, mummified guardian.

And again in 1944, John is back with Bela and George Zucco in RETURN OF THE APE MAN, a story about an Arctic expedition, two scientists find the frozen body of a prehistoric caveman. They bring the thing back to their laboratory and decide that in order to fully utilize and control him, they must transplant a more developed brain into his skull...

John scores the role of BLUEBEARD in 1944, here, an artist in Paris hires models to pose for him, and after he finishes their portraits, he strangles them!

Then, John stars in his last movie from 1944, HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, ending with a string of six productions from that year, WOW!!.. Here, an evil scientist and his hunchbacked assistant escape from prison and encounter Dracula, the Wolf Man and Frankenstein's Monster!! It also stars Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, J. Carrol Naish, Anne Gwynne, Lionel Atwill and George Zucco.

John is back in 1945 to stars along with Lon Chaney and Lionel Atwill in HOUSE OF DRACULA. Count Dracula and the Wolf Man seek cures for their afflictions, but, a hunchbacked woman, a mad scientist and Frankenstein's Monster have their own probs...

Last on our list is THE FACE OF MARBLE from 1946. John stars in this story about a doctor who's engrossed in a project to bring the dead back to life, but fails to notice his wife's interest in his young lab partner.

So, there you go, the horror and sci-fi movies of the great John Carradine!! Tune in again on Wednesday when Eegah!! will have more cool junk, here, at The Dungeon!..

1970's QUASI-SCARY TV MOVIES!

Here's a list of 13 TV movies made in the 1970's that either I, or Lord Litter, have found on the Internet Archive (And you could too for free) that I'm almost sure I'm never going to get around to watching, but should somehow be included here at least for historical significance! With that said........

....Here we go! In chronological order starting with...

"Weekend Of Terror" from 1970 with Robert Conrad, Carol Lynley, and Lee Majors!
"Three nuns on a weekend trip are held hostage by escaped convicts."
Sounds like a good time, how could you go wrong there?!?

From 1971, "A Howling In The Woods" starring Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden who were both not only in "I Dream Of Jeannie," but also on "Dallas!!"

The 1972 ghost story "The Stone Tape!"

Barbara Eden is back in the 1972 movie, "The Woman Hunter" with two other Dungeon notables, Robert Vaughn and Stuart Whitman!
 "There's A Killer In Paradise!"

Also in 1972 was "Night Of Terror" with Martin Balsam, Chuck Connors, Donna Mills, and Agnes Moorehead!
"He's Out There!"

1973 delivered "A Cold Night's Death" with Robert Culp and Eli Wallach!

Also in 1973 came "The Norliss Tapes" with Roy Thinnes and Angie Dickinson!!
"Once the demon is awakened he will be granted immortality!"

The cast of the 1974 movie "Scream Of The Werewolf" was a fairly all-star affair that included Peter Graves, Clint Walker, Jo Ann Pflug, and Don Megowan, who ironically enough or not, was the Sheriff in the 1956 classic, "The Werewolf!"

The 1974 movie "The Day The Earth Moved" also had a cast of immense pop culture proportions, that included Jackie Cooper, Clevon Little, Stella Stevens, and Beverly Garland, but I still doubt I'll ever watch it!

"Curse Of The Black Widow" from 1977 also had a fairly all-star cast that included
Anthony Franciosa, Donna Mills, Patty Duke, June Lockhart and Sid Caesar!
Big Girl!!

"Night Terror" aka "Night Drive" also came out in 1977 with Valerie Harper!
Housewife vs. Psycho!

By 1978, it was time for "Devil Dog:Hound Of Hell," with a killer cast that included Richard Crenna, Yvette Mimieux, and Martine Beswick! (Okay, I might have to watch it some day just for those two!)
"A Halloween Howler!"

"A teenage girl is harassed by a stalker" in another 1978 movie called "Are You In The House Alone?"
So, there you go! IF I've slighted your favourite movie, then by all means leave a comment, and I'll make sure and give it the treatment it deserves, but until then, Aloha, Auf Wiedersehen, & Buenos Noches!
